> A burkini... is a type of modesty swimsuit for women... the suit covers the whole body except the face, the hands and the feet, while being light enough for swimming. -- Wikipedia Image source: Wikimedia commons Looking online, there's a range of different burkini styles around. Some seem to aim to cover the awrah of a woman (in front of men), while some are more practical for swimming (a kind of compromise solution, or perhaps better suited for swimming only with women). **Question**: What should a Muslim woman look for in a burkini? There seems to be a bunch of problems with burkinis: 1. They incompletely cover the awrah. 2. They are skin tight, or become so when wet. 3. They inhibit swimming. 4. They are potentially a drowning hazard. *Edit*: I tried some conservative swimwear I bought in Turkey. I can confirm 1., 2., and 3.; basically it's like swimming while wearing everyday clothes. And 4. is a logical conclusion from 3. From my experience, I can also add: 5. You draw attention to yourself by looking different (assuming not all women are wearing them). 6. They're difficult to change out of when wet. A related question is here: https://islam.stackexchange.com/q/7467/17163 , but I'm trying to be more specific and practical.

Assalamualaikum, Recently alhamdulillah I started to (try to) apply the Deen as best as possible and I have lots of shorts in my possession that do not cover the awrah properly (are a little over the knee) As a solution can I wear tight leggings (cover 3/4 of the leg) under those shorts? It's more comfortable than wearing pants and I can still make use of the shorts, but I'm not sure if it's ok for my knee to be viewable in tight clothing publicly. If it's Haram completely, can I donate these shorts to poor people?

How to interpret "A women who reveals her body or even wears tight fitting clothes wont come within 500 years of the smell of Jannah"?
[AskImam][1] quotes the Prophet as saying: > A women who reveals her body or even wears tight fitting clothes wont come within 500 years of the smell of Jannah. and the extended version > Women who are dressed but appear naked, who will be inclined (towards men) and make (men) incline (toward them)....
AskImam quotes the Prophet as saying: > A women who reveals her body or even wears tight fitting clothes wont come within 500 years of the smell of Jannah. and the extended version > Women who are dressed but appear naked, who will be inclined (towards men) and make (men) incline (toward them). They will not enter Jannah and they will not smell its fragrance where as its fragrance can be would be smelt from the distance of 500 years. I'm struggling to understand this. In particular: - Am I correct in understanding that this is a quote from the Prophet Muhammad ? - Does this imply that (believing) women who dress immodestly throughout their lives without repenting will not go to heaven? If so, where do they go? - How much of their body is required to be revealed before this applies? - What does "smelt from the distance of 500 years" mean? Distance is not usually measured in years, nor is it smelt.

If a spouse marries another spouse and they give gifts and things to that spouse. But he/she divorces the other that same night or the next day and run away with the gifts and money. Can the other spouse demand it back? I have found some fatwa- From a Fatwa of Al-Azhar University: "If a woman enters into a marriage with the explicit intent of obtaining money and then divorces immediately to avoid fulfilling her marital duties, this constitutes fraud. In such a case, the husband has the right to request the annulment of the marriage and reclaim any gifts or dowry given. The woman's intention to deceive makes the marriage invalid, and gifts exchanged in an invalid contract must be returned." From the Permanent Committee of Islamic Scholars (Saudi Arabia): "A marriage entered into with deceptive intent for financial gain, with no intention of fulfilling the marital obligations, is considered invalid. In such cases, the husband is entitled to reclaim the dowry and gifts given, as they were exchanged based on a marriage contract that was rooted in fraud." Ibn Qudamah (Hanbali), in his work "Al-Mughni", states that if a person enters a marriage with fraudulent intentions (for example, with the intent to deceive the other party), the marriage can be annulled, and the deceived party may be entitled to reclaim any gifts or payments made during the marriage. This is in line with the principle that fraud nullifies a contract. Al-Mughni, Volume 7, Page 457: "If a marriage is based on deception, such as one spouse hiding their true intentions or misrepresenting something fundamental to the marriage, then the marriage may be annulled, and any gifts or money exchanged could be reclaimed." Al-Shaybani (Hanafi Fiqh): The Hanafi school, in general, holds that a marriage based on deception is a form of fraud. If one party is deceived about a crucial fact (like the intention to divorce or other fundamental issues), the contract can be annulled. This would typically lead to the return of any material goods exchanged under fraudulent circumstances. "Al-Hidayah": The Hanafi text outlines that if the marriage is found to be based on deceit (e.g., false promises), the gifts may be returned, as the basis for their exchange was invalid. Maliki Scholars: Maliki jurists also assert that deceit in marriage, such as entering a marriage under false pretenses, can lead to annulment. If the marriage is annulled due to fraud, the deceived party has the right to request the return of gifts. Al-Mudawwana (by Sahnun): It discusses the consequences of marriage fraud and outlines that the deceived party might be entitled to the return of any gifts or dowry if fraud is proven. Please clarify.

Assalamu 'alaikum.
It's in Suratul Waqi'ah. The verses beneath talk about people who will be on the right on the Day of Judgement. > "From among the forecomers, there will be many. And from among the latecomers, there will be less." I understand this part, if only little, by the grace of Allah. Many people from our distant ancestors will be on the right on the Day of Judgement, that is, they were well-guided. But in that same surah, in following verses, Allah says:
>"From among the forecomers, there will be many. And from among the latecomers there will be many."
In this part, I can't understand for my shortage of guidance and knowledge. I request an explanation of these verses. I also request you to recite the surah first, if you don't have it memorized, before making an answer, for I've heard and read proof that meaning of verses depend on its background.
I'd be glad to be corrected if I'm wrong anywhere. May Allah bless you.

According to Sunnis, mut'ah (temporary marriage) was allowed before but later the Prophet salallahu alayhi wassalam abolished it. It is based on the following hadiths (traditions): > In the Two Sahihs, it is recorded that the Leader of the Faithful `Ali > bin Abi Talib said, "The Messenger of Allah prohibited Mut'ah marriage > and eating the meat of domesticated donkeys on the day of Khaybar > (battle).'' In addition, in his Sahih, Muslim recorded that Ar-Rabi' bin Sabrah bin Ma'bad Al-Juhani said that his father said that he accompanied the Messenger of Allah during the conquest of Makkah, and that the Prophet said, > O people! I allowed you the Mut'ah marriage with women before. Now, > Allah has prohibited it until the Day of Resurrection. Therefore, > anyone who has any women in Mut`ah, let him let them go, and do not > take anything from what you have given them. What is the evidence that the Shia used to allow it? Are there any conditions to perform Mut'ah ? What happens to the woman and her children after the Mut'ah marriage ends?

Praise and glory be to Him, (far above is He) from having the > partners they associate (with Him)." **—Qur'an 9:31** In (I think) Tirmidhi > Tafseer, there is a hadith about this ayah, where Prophet Muhammad says (paraphrasing), “It is not that the Jews worshiped their Rabbis, but they accepted whatever they said as to what is halal and haram.” But that hadith was short and without names, and I remember someone mentioning the full story as to who actually came to Prophet Muhammad. And, as I remember, the person first said, “We did not worship our Rabbis,” upon which Prophet Muhammad said what he said. Where can I find that longer version?

*The Reliance of the Traveller*, by Ahmad ibn Naqib al-Misri (translated by Nuh Ha Mim Keller) in Section r40.1 quotes a fatwa (كفُّ الرَّعَاع عن محرَّمات اللهو والسَّمَاع Kaff al-ra'a' 'an muharramat al-Iahw wa al-sama' (y49), 2.269-70) by Ibn Hajar Haytami , which concludes that "musical instruments of all types are unlawful". One hadith he uses for evidence is: > Allah Mighty and Majestic sent me as a guidance and mercy to believers and commanded me to do away with musical instruments, flutes, strings, crucifixes, and the affair of the pre-Islamic period of ignorance. (The section is quoted in full e.g. at Muhammadanism.com .) **Question**: Does this hadith exist, and is it reliable? Searching the Internet, I did not find a reference for this hadith. A forum post lists it as in "Abu Dawud", but searching for site:sunnah.com/abudawud instruments (and variants) didn't help me find a source. Other listed hadith in the Ibn Hajar Haytami snippet are classed as weak by others (IslamWeb and FatwaIslam ), which makes me question its reliability.
