Ali replied, 'No, except Allah's Book or the power of understanding which has been bestowed (by Allah) upon a Muslim or what is (written) in this sheet of paper (with me).' Abu Juhaifa said, "I asked, 'What is (written) in this sheet of paper?' `Ali replied, it deals with The Diyya (compensation (blood money) paid by the killer to the relatives of the victim), the ransom for the releasing of the captives from the hands of the enemies, and the law that no Muslim should be killed in Qisas (equality in punishment) for the killing of (a disbeliever).

*"No, except Allah's Book"*. Does that mean the only revelation was the Quran and the Sunnah is not a revelation just the practical understanding of the Quran? Would not this information change the concept how we classify which Hadith is Sahih which is not?

How many sunnah prayer rakat are there related to dhuhr prayer?
Sunnah fajr= 4 rakat. 2 rakat fard+ 2 rakat sunnah. Sunnah Zuhr= 10 rakat. 4 rakat sunnah and fard+ 2 final sunnah. Sunnah Asr= 8 rakat. 4 rakat sunnah and fard. Sunnah fajr= 4 rakat. 2 rakat fard+ 2 rakat sunnah.
Sunnah Zuhr= 10 rakat. 4 rakat sunnah and fard+ 2 final sunnah.
Sunnah Asr= 8 rakat. 4 rakat sunnah and fard.
Sunnah Maghirb= 5 rakat. 3 rakat fard+ 2 rakat sunnah.
Sunnah Isha= 10 rakat. 4 rakat sunnah and fard+ 2 final sunnah.
This is what I have done.
But when I go on deeper research this is the correct sunnah.
>Narrated Umm Habibah:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: If anyone keeps on praying regularly four rak'ahs before and four after the noon prayer, he will not enter the Hell-fire.
>
>Abu Dawud said: Al-'Ala' bin Al-Harith and Sulaiman bin Musa reported it from Makhul with his chain, similarly. (Sunan abi Dawud )
So does it mean I need to do...
4 rakat sunnah, 4 rakat fard and 4 rakat sunnah
3 times 4 rakat
Altogether is 12 rakat zuhr, but 8 rakat sunnah rakat.
Moreover I have heard when someone pray 12 rakat Allah will give house in Jannah, so does it mean I need to pray exactly 12 rakat sunnah or it can be more 12 rakat.
So my point on zuhr should i do 4 rakat sunnah+ 4 rakat fard+ 4 rakat sunnah or 2 rakat.
I want to clear the misconception about sunnah rakat.

Assalaamu Alaikkum..,
I'm Fathima mother of two kids and 7 months pregnant. I'm suffering with waswas problem regarding najasa.. It often comes and goes... last few days I'm having severe waswas problem with 2 issues. I use to travel vacation to my home country and some other countries as well... when I travel Sometimes, airport dogs come close to my baggage and I feel their tongue touches my bags and I feel always my bags are unclean... so I try as much as I can not to touch anything with wet objects with my bags.. But, others don't do like that. Once My relative kept my praying mat on that bag and I'm not sure whether the musallaa wet or not... this happened a few months ago and even if I keep thinking I should not fall in to shaythan's whispering and I used the same mat to pray till I go to my country for 2 months vacation. But, when I come back I feel again this mat is dirty, I should wash it... some time I feel no it's not.. If I wash this will continue... last few days I'm praying on it... but my mind is always doubt in it... this is one issue..
another issue is I took one cloth in my bag with other cloths ( all were dry) but, when I take them all out, they were cool due to travel.. Now I feel my other clothes also become najis... I'm not sure with which cloths I kept that dirty cloth..
Last few days this 2 issues are making me mad... I'm full disturbed... I keep on asking dua from ALLAAH... Still my mind is heavy and always feeling that all are unclean.. I couldn't sleep properly.. I worry about my baby...
Please give me a remedy.. It might look silly... But, I don't know what to do... I'm afraid something will happen to me.. My husband always say just leave it. I'm also trying. But, I couldn't do it... Should I see a doctor?
I want to know, will najis transmit from one to another even if it little wet?
Jazakallaah....

Could Muslims purchase slaves which were kidnapped by non-Muslims?

The title is only really one half of the question, as what I'm really unsure about is the fact that the majority of slaves throughout the Islamic slave trade were bought and not acquired through war.
I would be under the assumption that with how much the prophet ﷺ abhorred capturing free folk and kidnapping them, that it would be prohibited in turn to purchase slaves from foreign bodies which they had acquired via the very kidnapping which was not forbidden for them.
> Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Allah says, 'I will be against three persons on the Day of Resurrection: -1. One who makes a covenant in My Name, but he proves treacherous. -2. One who sells a free person (as a slave) and eats the price, -3. And one who employs a laborer and gets the full work done by him but does not pay him his wages.' " Sahih al-Bukhari 2227
https://sunnah.com/bukhari:2227
Yet that leads to another problem in which how could it then be possible for any of the slaves acquired by non-muslim forces to be permissable in that sense as they have not acquired them from a holy war, nor have they had to follow any of the islamic principles.
The reason why I say it's only one half is because I'm also wondering what the actual stipulations are for Muslims to capture slaves. I keep seeing contradicting answers on this site or it just being incompletely explained elsewhere, but is the acquisition of slaves only the combatants and non combatants who were present at the battle or does it include the cities of conquest? Because even if a minority of slaves historically were gained from Muslim conquest, there's no way so many women would be present in the battle fields throughout history for Muslims to have such a large ratio of female slaves and concubines.
As such I'd be led to believe that POWs included the common folk of cities under siege and conquest by the Muslims as well, but is it so?
And finally, sorry for adding an emotional response rather than rational one at the end, but is it not unfair that in the case that we could trade and buy slaves from non Muslims regardless of how they were acquired, or rather the fact that they ended up slaves for reasons unrelated to being against the Muslims in any way shape or form? They were not fighting the Muslims, they were not complicit in anything, in the case of kidnapping they had been guilty of absolutely nothing.
> Shaykh al-Shanqiti (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
“The reason for slavery is kufr and fighting against Allah and His Messenger. When Allah enables the Muslim mujahidin who are offering their souls and their wealth, and fighting with all their strength and with what Allah has given them to make the word of Allah supreme over the kuffar, then He makes them their property by means of slavery unless the ruler chooses to free them for nothing or for a ransom, if that serves the interests of the Muslims.” (Adwa al-Bayan, 3/387)
Of course this builds upon the idea that my first supposition is true though lol.

What evidence is there that a Muslim man can not marry a chaste woman of the book if she is an ex-Muslim?
[Qur'an 5:5][1] permits Muslim men to marry chaste women of the book. Qur'an 5:5 permits Muslim men to marry chaste women of the book. However, according to IslamWeb, there is an exception: a Muslim man may not marry a woman who is an ex-Muslim (a.k.a., an apostate). They quote:
> Ibn Qudaamah said: “It is prohibited to marry an apostate woman, no matter what religion she adopts; because it is not proved for her the ruling of the people of the religion to which she converted by one's approval of her doing so. Based on this, it is not lawful for him to marry her with greater reason.” [Al-Mughni 7/131]
> IslamWeb
The English in this translation is not clear, so I'm not sure what "it is not proved for her the ruling of the people of the religion to which she converted by one's approval of her doing so" actually means.
This leads me to my question:
**Question**: What evidence is there that a Muslim man can not marry a chaste woman of the book if she is an ex-Muslim?
I think IslamWeb refers to Ibn Qudamah on Wikipedia, who was around hundreds of years after the Prophet. If this is correct, what IslamWeb presents is just one scholar's opinion. However, it's possible this scholar had other justifications for making this ruling.

According to a Shia scholar Imam Mahdi, before he went into Ghaiba, had said "Kitab Al-Kafi is enough for our Shia". I heard it from a video in YouTube without the source being mentioned.
So the question is, **In which source does Imam Mahdi say "Kitab Al-Kafi is enough for our Shia"?**

I learned from a previous fatwa that if you are a student and are not financially able to get married, you can still get married and both live with their parents until he is financially stable. My question is whether all rights and obligations of the spouses continue to exist during this time or whether this circumstance changes anything. Specifically, I am asking whether the husband has the right over his wife to have intercourse with her during this time. If not, please provide proof.

Was slave prostitution allowed?
## Forcing slaves to prostitution It is mentioned in this [hadith][3]; > Jabir reported that 'Abdullah b. Ubayy b. ## Forcing slaves to prostitution
It is mentioned in this hadith ;
> Jabir reported that 'Abdullah b. Ubayy b. Salul used to say to his slavegirl:
**Go and fetch something for us by committing prostitution.**
Then the verse 24:33 was reveled:
> And do not compel your slave girls to prostitution, **if they desire chastity**, to seek [thereby] the temporary interests of worldly life
So, according to this verse, it seems that it says you shouldn't **force** the slave women **if they want to desire chastity**. But that opens up the possibility: if they ain't desiring chastity, it is possible to tell your slave girls to do prostitution without force. Or am I misunderstanding it?
Baydawi says in his tafsir:
> تعففاً شرط للإِكراه فإنه لا يوجد دونه، **وإن جعل شرطاً للنهي لم يلزم من عدمه** جواز الإِكراه لجواز أن يكون ارتفاع النهي بامتناع المنهي عنه، وإيثار إن على إذا لأن إرادة التحصن من الإِماء كالشاذ النادر
## Was slave prostitution allowed?

*This question was a bit broad so I removed a lot and created another [question](https://islam.stackexchange.com/q/40850/15201) with that which I removed.*

Is there something like Sabbath in Islam?
A day when no work is allowed? Jews have that, and observe it quite strictly.
Christians have it, but place it on Sunday instead of Saturday.
As far as I know, the "holy day" in Islam is on Friday, but I don't know of any restrictions to do work on Fridays.
The closest to Sabbath I can think of is Ramadan, but as far as I understand, work is not prohibited as such, only avoided due to the stress imposed by fasting.
Is my understanding correct? If not, what am I missing?
---
Looks like this is a difficult question, so I try to rephrase it: is there any time or calendar date in Islam where doing work is haram?
---
Again, this question has been misunderstood. The question is *not* if Muslims observe Shabbath, whether on Saturday or on Friday or on Sunday.
Obviously *NO*.
The question was if there is *any concept equal to Shabbath* and the accepted answer is "no, except for the times of obligatory prayers", where work cannot be done because the prayer requires all attention.

Salam, I’ve recently been looking at the differences between hafs and warsh variants and can understand the difference between most of them. However, I looked at a website recently which said that in Quran 66:12, in the hafs version it says “his books” while in the warsh version it says “his book.” Does this not change the meaning in the verse? Also, there are differences regarding singular and plural in other places as well, so I was wondering if that changes the meaning? Jazakallah Khair

If you define justice as giving everyone what they deserve, then mercy is the opposite of that, either Forgiving them when they could be punished, or "multiplying" their reward. Now if you say someone deserved "mercy", that's justice and not mercy at all because they deserved it. It also can't be that God can be just at sometime and merciful at another, since that would mean he's sometimes unjust. Ditto for some kind of grander scheme of justice involving mercy. Let's not even get into fairness. If god gives mercy whenever he wants and doesn't(which he necessarily can't do for a reason, since if it were reasonable it would be called justice) then that means different people are punished differently for the same crime !
