My spouse and I are having a friendly debate on this topic. We both understand that the Qur’an permits the food of the People of the Book, but we differ on what that means in practice today. - Her view: We can't be sure if the animal was slaughtered according to Islamic requirements (e.g., invoking Allah’s name, proper method, etc.), so the meat might not be halal. - My view: If we don’t know exactly how it was slaughtered, we can still say “Bismillah” before eating and it becomes halal, based on the hadith where the Prophet ﷺ said: > The Prophet's Companions once complained to him and said: "We receive meat and we do not know if God's name has been invoked on > it." The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Recite God’s name and eat of it." (Narrated in Bukhari) Could someone please explain why scholars differ? Why do some scholars rely on this hadith and others seem to disregard it? I’m originally from the U.S and the opinion I follow is commonly practiced here that meat from the People of the Book is generally permissible if we don’t have clear evidence that it’s haram and we can eat it as long as we say bismillah. My wife is from Southeast Asia, where the more cautious view is followed that meat is only halal if we are sure it was slaughtered properly according to Islamic guidelines. According to fatwa if husband says talaq to wife in state of purity but they had relations the previous night, our of anger as there was a heated argument, is this talaq valid. This happened on many occasions as my husband has a temper problem. He mentioned talaq different occassions but this all happened where we had relations the day before. I am really confused because the local sheikh says its valid and doesnt listen to the facts of how it happened and when it happened. Local sheikh says that even if woman is in state if purity and even if the couple had intercourse the day before the talaq, that the talaq is valid. If some of those named are children or elders who are financially dependent, and not paying for a share, is it still valid? Is the rule about 7 people based on names or financial shares? I’m a 16 year old girl (turned 16 about a month and a couple of days ago) and about a couple of years ago (1-3) I heard that not having your dads last name was a sin/wrong and that there was a punishment for it/not being able to enter jannah. For reference I was raised by my mother and my father is not in my life. But he was given a choice when I was born to write his name/last name down by my name but he expressed that he did not want me to have his name. So my mother wrote my uncle’s last name (they are full siblings but my uncle has a different name then his real one his documents) so that if something happened to her I would go to him. Now the country I live in needs the father’s signature if I want to change my last name to his name (I do believe that only when you’re a minor ) but I do not have contact with him, and have not seen him since my 4th birthday (I can count on 1 hand how many times I have met him (5) ) but when you turn 18 you have the freedom to change your name to whatever you want (though it takes a couple of months). Now we come to what I wanted to ask is it permissible to change my last name to my maternal grandfather’s name and last name (his name is Hassan mohamud). Ps I want reply’s with proof of it being permissible/haram and I would appreciate it if a sheikh or Islamic teacher could answer this since I want an educated opinion.

As far as I know, a Jinn is of a race that Allah has made out of (pure, smokeless) fire just like humans where made by Him out of clay. Reading recent questions, and old ones "botted up" by the Community Bot, most of them looking like asking for personal advice, often asking about jinns. I cannot help but feel that there is some misunderstanding of jinns in common folklore and what is really based on Islam. From the questions, it looks like jinns are looked on as a kind of devils, bringing harm, bad luck and nightmares. From my very, very bad translation of the Quran I once had I remember a Sura where Prophet Muhammad stated that when he was speaking, there was also a number of jinns present. So they cannot be all that bad, not all of them. Sorry if I can't make a clear and unambiguous question out of my thoughts. I will sharpen it if someone can direct me.

Some explanatory books, such as Nayl al-Awtar by Imam al-Shawkani, Mirqat al-Mafatih by al-Mulla Ali al-Qari, and the explanation of al-Mishkat by al-Tibi, have interpreted the hadith of Safiyyah (radi Allahu 'anha), when she said that the Prophet (salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam) "bana biha", to mean that he built a new tent because of her or with her. Is it valid to interpret the hadith of Aisha (radi Allahu 'anha): "bana bi Rasul Allah", to mean that he built a tent because of her or with her? My question is: is this interpretation acceptable from the perspective of the Arabic language?

I’ve always believed that drawing only a human head with facial features but without the body might be permissible, because neither the head nor the body can survive on its own.
