Can I use the the sadaqah and lillah I paid during those years to count towards the zakah I owe for the previous years? I would appreciate an answer that conforms to the Hanafi madhhab.

I have heard a hadith which says that indeed, sadaqah/charity postpones/removes a coming adversity. I have also heard that we can offer voluntary prayer (like 2 nafl) as sadaqa (even though I have not been able to find an authentic reference from Quran or hadith). These days I am going through a lot of trials, one after the other (which encompasses monetary and valuables' loss, multiple incidents of theft, problems at work place, health issues). So I want to give charity, so that Allah, by His grace and mercy, removes upcoming difficulties and make it easy for me inshaAllah. The question is that since I am short of cash at the moment, can I offer nafl/voluntary prayers as sadaqa?

Doing good things, using bad methods

If someone steals a small amount of money(from a lot of individuals) and gives it all to charity, is that person doing a good thing or a bad thing? He/She isn't benefiting anything from this. If it was for personal benefit, that person can just steal all the money and keep it to themselves (or even keep some - if not all - of it to themseves like most theives do). However, all that money is used to either do good (helping poor people, planting trees, making the world a better place etc.), or get more money to do more good. The amount stolen from each individual won't affect that individual's life (e.g. some change in a bill), that he/she might not even notice. However, when all the small amounts are added up, this money can be used to do a lot of good things. The person who is stealing that money and giving it to charity is working hard(daily) not to get caught and keep the operation going. However, he/she is doing this in his/her free time to leave the world a better place than he found it. Should a person with the ability to do this, do it? Is it allowed to try to make the world a better place using methods that others mostly exploit for personal benefit? God has given me the power to do this, and I want to use it for good and have millions donated to charity. This can be done with complete anonymity, and without any effect on my personal life. Should I do this and make the world a better place, or is it forbidden?

I am planning to raise undertake an orphan/poor education project where I will school these kids. Obviously the money required to do so will come from donation. My question is quite simple. Considering the plan that I have I will need to provide my full time effort in raising funds as well as managing the entire execution. I currently have a full-time job, Alhamdulillah. Is it permissible if I keep a part of the money that comes from donation as my salary for the time that I spend. Please advise.

Assalamu Alaikum, I do software development and I like to share the knowledge with people to help them learn and unblock them when they are blocked. In this logic, I have recorded multiple YouTube videos sharing my knowledge and teaching people how to code and how to develop software programs. When I shared the videos, my intention, wa Allahu aalam, was to share knowledge and to help people. My questions are as follows: 1. Are those videos teaching people software considered as sadaqah Jarya? 2. Should I renew my intention for those videos to make it intended as a sadaqah? Jazakum Allahu khairan, Assalamu Alaikum,

Salaam alaikum, I received a gift from my land lady today...some freshly baked cookies for the holidays! I was coincidentally doing a lot of thinking this week on whether or not alcohol evaporates when baked and after a lot of research I learned that alcohol will not dissolve in a hot oven. I read 10-15 articles but here is one excerpt that gets the point across: > "The longer you cook, the more alcohol cooks out, but you have to cook > food for about 3 hours to fully erase all traces of alcohol. A study > from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Nutrient Data lab confirmed > this and added that food baked or simmered in alcohol for 15 minutes > still retains 40 percent of the alcohol. After an hour of cooking, 25 > percent of the alcohol remains, and even after two and a half hours > there's still 5 percent of it. In fact, some cooking methods are less > effective at removing alcohol than simply letting food stand out > overnight uncovered." Source: https://www.foodnetwork.com/how-to/packages/food-network-essentials/cooking-wine-does-alcohol-burn-off#:~:text=The%20longer%20you%20cook%2C%20the,40%20percent%20of%20the%20alcohol . I can ask what the ingredients were in these cookies and I will do that. But let's assume that she used vanilla extract and that means that technically...these cookies have alcohol in them. What is the permissibility of throwing this bag of cookies away? Now that I know they're alcoholic (even if they don't taste as such) I can't give them to someone else. That would mean I knowingly shared alcohol with another person (whether a kafir or not). Subhan Allah this gets more complicated now. Today I also walked past a homeless person who asked me for money. I was worried he'd buy drugs so instead I went out and bought him a non halal chicken burrito instead. We have no Halal restaurants where I live, but I didn't want to risk ignoring someone in need. As I sat there, waiting for that burrito to be made, I wondered if I was sinning but eventually I thought of it as the lesser of two evils. Perhaps I should have bought him something vegetarian instead but I also worried he was malnourished and chicken seemed like a better option for his health. Is it permissible in that example to provide someone with non-halal food? If not, what's the best thing I could have done as a believer? Jazak Allah Khair.

The following hadith says: > Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: > > The Messenger of > Allah (ﷺ) said: "A man (from amongst the people before you) said: > 'Indeed! I will give in charity.' So he took his Sadaqah out and > placed it in a thief's hand. > > In the morning the people were talking > (about this incident) and saying: 'Sadaqah was given to a thief last > night.' The man said: 'O Allah! Praise be to You. I have given Sadaqah > to a thief. Indeed, I will give in charity!' So he took his Sadaqah > out and he placed it in a prostitute's hand. > > In the morning the people > were talking (about this incident) and saying: 'Sadaqah was given to a > prostitute last night.' On hearing this, the man said: 'Praise be to > You, O Allah! I gave Sadaqah to a prostitute. > > Indeed, I will give in > charity!' So he took his Sadaqah out and placed it in a rich man's > hand. In the morning the people were talking (about this incident) and > saying: 'Sadaqah was given to a rich man last night.' The man said: 'O > Allah! Praise be to You (for helping me) give charity to a thief, a > prostitute and a rich man.' > > Then he had a dream in which he was told > that his Sadaqah to the thief might result in his refraining from his > theft, his Sadaqah to the prostitute might help her abstain from her > immorality, and his Sadaqah to the rich man might help him pay heed > and spend from what Allah had bestowed upon him." > >[ \[Al- Bukhari\]][1] . This hadith seems to imply that giving money to a rich person is sadaqah. However, it is unclear if this rule apply to the Ummah because it may be a story about people of other prophets (the rules revealed to other prophets don't apply to us). Is giving gifts or money to a rich person regarded as Sadaqah?

Salam alaikum, I had a question in regards to pork. Awhile ago I came across a homeless woman and I told her since I don’t give homeless people money I can buy her food instead and as it were we were standing next to a Lidl. I told her she can pick out couple of items and she picked up chicken, potatoes and other items. She also picked up ham and at that time my brain did register that it was haram but I was preoccupied and it didn’t occur to me that I shouldn’t be paying for pork. I think my brain would’ve alerted me to any alcohol but it just dismissed the chicken and ham until I was thinking about it afterwards. So my question is did I bring sin upon myself whilst I was trying to do an act of charity. Would that act even count? Thank you.

Salam everyone, Unfortunately, I invested into GME stock before I did the research and found out that it was not a halal investment. Growing up in America, I never studied or really even heard about Islamic Finance until talking with my Imam recently. I invested with a clean intention, but if I sold now I would lose money. Would it be ok to wait, make profit, and donate all the money for Sadaqah? I would also like to ask for some good Islamic finance sites to learn more about it. Thank you all

Is it standard islamic practice (or is this cultural) to give sadaqah on behalf of another person to add barakah and/or make their life easier and/or remove some calamity from their life? i.e. Can I give sadaqah on behalf of a troubled family member? In the hope that this troubled family member will receive the blessings of me giving the sadaqah on his/her behalf?
