I am a MD radiologist. To give some context I live in a non Muslim majority country. I work in a hospital 6 days a week. In our department there are 5 radiologist including me. Only 1 of them is female and rest all are male. And I am the only muslim there. I chose radiology because I had a good rank and it is also the top sought profession with a small closing rank. Now our typical day involves CT scan, MRI, USG not only of pregnancy but also to evaluate organs like the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, and pancreas, to examine muscles, tendons, and joints, Vascular ultrasound,Thyroid ultrasound, Pediatric ultrasound, Cardiac ultrasound (echocardiogram), Prostate ultrasound, Other Ultrasound-guided procedures. Now we do have a good patient load hence everyone is busy. For female reproductive part disease related and breast related issues the female radio handles it almost 99% of time and also there is patient preference in this case. Rest work is done by division of labour. Now as far as how work is concerned there is a male and a female attendent for respective genders regardless of the doctor's gender they do all covering, uncovering positioning, etc. We keep a device on belly(for ultrasonography) or the parts(for other disorders, not pelvis and breast for me) and it captures the image(so no direct physical contact), I study and report. A or two family member is always present and the attended is also there for full time. I always keep my gaze lowered, don't look anything more or less than what area is required, nor go in excess talking with women. Sometimes there is emergency for female patients and I by duty have to attend it(we have divided work load). Am I sinful for operating on female patients, like ultrasonography or say artery blockage in hand, broken bone or blockage in back?

Assalamu Alaikum, My name is Amridin, and I am 15 years old. At my school, we have a dance class that all students are required to attend. In this class, we are learning dances where boys have to touch girls’ hands and spin them. However, as far as I understand (and I might be wrong), touching a woman who is not my relative (non-mahram) is haram in Islam and not allowed. My father says that touching a woman is not bad, and it is allowed as long as I don’t have any bad intentions. He says that since I’m not doing anything sexual, it is okay. According to him, we live in a modern world and we shouldn’t follow the Qur’an too strictly, because it can lead to extremism. Now I am confused. I want to obey Allah and also respect my father. Who is right? And what should I do in this situation?

Why is jealousy among women unpardonable and a sign of faith in men?

I fail to comprehend the following thing in regards to *jealousy*: 1. why is it unpardonable for women? 2. conversely, why is it a sign of faith in religion for men? 3. what has 1. and 2. got to do with the permission and prohibition of polygamy and polyandry respectively in Islam?

Scholars have often stated that men and women are equal in terms of reward and punishment and that true superiority is in piety and good deeds. However, scholars also appear to imply that men have been created naturally more committed religiously, and that women have been created as being 'religiously deficient' by nature which sounds contradictory to spiritual equality. Here is a hadith regarding women's deficiency in religious commitment: > The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) > said: “I have not seen any lacking in reason and religious commitment > but (at the same time) more able to rob the wisdom of the wise, except > one of you [women].” They said: How are we lacking in religious > commitment and reason, O Messenger of Allah? He said: “Is not the > testimony of a woman like half the testimony of a man?” They said: > Yes. He said: “That is how she is lacking in reason. And when she > menstruates, does she not refrain from praying and fasting?” They > said: Yes. He said: “That is how she is lacking in religious > commitment.” How can women and men be equal in reward and punishment, when this 'natural lack of religious commitment compared to men' means that women get the short end of the stick by way of their creation, and that it is easier for men be more 'pious'?

Why Islam claims women are deficient in religion and intelligence? When in reality they are not
There are several hadiths which claims women are inferior in intelligence to that of men. for example: > Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: > > Once Allah's Apostle went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) o > 'Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, > "O women! Give alms,...

Then he passed by the women and said, > "O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers > of Hell-fire were you (women)." They asked, "Why is it so, O Allah's > Apostle ?" He replied, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to > your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence > and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by > some of you." The women asked, "O Allah's Apostle! What is deficient > in our intelligence and religion?" He said, "Is not the evidence of > two women equal to the witness of one man?" They replied in the > affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her intelligence. > Isn't it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her > menses?" The women replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the > deficiency in her religion." > Sahih Bukhari 1:6:301 In another hadith: > Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri > > On 'Id ul Fitr or 'Id ul Adha Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) went out to > the Musalla. After finishing the prayer, he delivered the sermon and > ordered the people to give alms. He said, "O people! Give alms." Then > he went towards the women and said. "O women! Give alms, for I have > seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-Fire were you (women)." > The women asked, "O Allah's Apostle! What is the reason for it?" He > replied, "O women! O women, some of you can lead a cautious wise man > astray." Then he left. And when he reached his house, Zainab, the wife > of Ibn Masud, came and asked permission to enter It was said, "O > Allah's Apostle! It is Zainab." He asked, 'Which Zainab?" The reply > was that she was the wife of Ibn Mas'ub. He said, "Yes, allow her to > enter." And she was admitted. Then she said, "O Prophet of Allah! > Today you ordered people to give alms and I had an ornament and > intended to give it as alms, but Ibn Masud said that he and his > children deserved it more than anybody else." The Prophet replied, > "Ibn Masud had spoken the truth. Your husband and your children had > more right to it than anybody else." > Sahih Bukhari 2:24:541 Similarly, > Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri > > The Prophet said, "Isn't the witness of a woman equal to half of that > of a man?" The women said, "Yes." He said, "This is because of the > deficiency of a woman's mind." > Sahih Bukhari 3:48:826 I know in pre Islamic Arabia women were deprived of basic needs such as education and other affairs that might have otherwise developed their critical thinking abilities and intelligence and might have made them equally intelligent like men. The same could also be true for even today's world when a woman goes through menstrual cycles, pregnancy etc which could have a negative impact on her brain. However, to render them lesser in religion simply because they cannot pray or fast during menstruation seems unjust. The reasons are simple: They could have been allowed to pray or fast even while menstruating, They did not vote to be pardoned from praying during that period of time. They had no choice in it and this decision was narrated to them by Muhammad pbuh who is not a woman. Similarly, they also did not choose to get periods, they simply inherited it as part of their gender and they are paying the price. Does this mean that a woman doing every 'good deed' she is able to do, and a man doing every 'good deed' they are able to, will result in the man receiving a higher reward from Allah because he was able to do more religious deeds because of no restrictions and the female was able to do less religious deeds because of restrictions put forth upon her beyond her privilege to control? I know I could be wrong, Please explain why and how.

I am an asexual. Means I don't feel any attraction at all to any gender and physical intercourse seems kinda gross to me :v. **Now are there any exceptions to be made in the Islamic Rules for gender interactions in my case?** To put it in **context**,I got some female 'friends' from work & study whom I talk to on a near daily basis. I never touch them(hugging, shaking hands), avoid khalwa(seclusion) as much as possible, don't talk anything vulgar/flirtatiously; basically I don't go overboard and don't even want to. But we do talk about common interests, necessary stuff and in rare cases about personal life & all. I have heard throughout Islamic history men who couldn't be attracted to women were employed in the Harem but those were mostly chastised men(not similar to me).

It is very clear that Quran forbids intercourse between man and woman before marriage. However, when it comes to **relationships**, the only close reference I have from Qu'ran is that we should "lower our gaze and guard our sexual organ", but so far I didn't see any **direct** forbiddence in being in a relationship with a girl which does not involve any haram interactions. There are many many rulings on dating and relationships by various people, fatwās, and scholars, such as [this](http://caliph.wordpress.com/articles/boy-girl/) . But very little citation is **directly from Quran**. I want to say that I trust only in Allah and his Angels, the Holy Quran, and Prophet Muhammad, but not in any other worldly people when it comes to how to live my life. So my question is, is there any direction citation from the Holy Quran, or Prophet Muhammad (but no more than these two) that talks explicitly about: 1) What are haram interactions apart from anything to do with sexual organs according to Quran? (Such as, kissing, holding hands, cuddling, meeting in private etc) 2) Forbidding relationship between men and women which does not involve any haram interactions before marriage.

Why exactly is it haram to have a girlfriend?
I don't really understand why it is haram to have a relationship with the opposite sex (with no sexual intercourse), or even just be friends. If I meet a girl, I would like to get to know her before getting married, and risk a miserable life with an incompatible partner.

Guardianship of Muslim women by men of a particular relative status is an important part of Islamic culture. I'm confused over this because on the one hand the word *guardian* implies the protection of women, yet in the West especially, it seems to be viewed very negatively as men deliberately trying to oppress women. In particular: does guardianship in the Middle-East predate Islam? If not, what motivated its development?

I am familiar with references such as: >Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and to be mindful of their chastity: this will be most conducive to their purity – (and,) verily, Allah is aware of all that they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and to be mindful of their chastity, and not to display their charms beyond what may be apparent thereof; hence let them draw their veils over their bosoms and do not show their adornments except to their husbands or their fathers or their husbands' fathers or their sons or their husbands' sons or their brothers or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons or their women or what their right hands possess or male servants free of sexual desires or those children who never knows the private things of women; and do not stamp their feet so that it may show their hidden adornments; and repent towards God collectively O believers so that you may succeed. > >— [Qur'an: Sura 24 (An-Nur): ayat 30-31] However there is no direct reference to gender segregation. In fact the passage suggests that men and women do meet from time to time and should lower their gaze and be modest.
