Does the story of Abel and Cain suggest that it is forbidden to kill in self defense?

I ask this question is in concern that the story of Abel (*هابیل*) and Cain (*قابیل*) when the first murder on earth happened between mankind. In that case, one side didn't fight back the murder but simply warn the other side of the hell fire.
However; I don't understand why we should not allow self defense even against Muslims.
For example, if a Muslim is shooting at you or going to stab you, are one suppose to just let the other side do it? Or any type of self defensive actions are allowed in Islam in this type of scenario?
Please state authentic Qur'an n hadith reference. Jazakallahir!

Is self-defense mandatory for a Muslim?
According to the Qur'an, does a Muslim **have to** defend himself against attacks by other people or illness (aka "value his life") or is it a "I don't have a problem if you do it"-mentality. In other words: Is there a part in the Qur'an that says "I will punish you, if you don't care for your body. If you don't defend your body from illness and attacks, you'll go to hell". (Also in case of taking drugs)

From the Arberry English translation
> Leave is given to those who fight because they were wronged...who were expelled from their habitations without right...
I have always understood this as permission to take revenge. But I've found a couple of authors who take it as a reference to self-defense, saying that it was revealed just as Muhammad fled Mecca, when he was in real danger of being attacked by the Quraysh, and applied only under similar circumstances. These authors don't mention anything about retribution.
[Tafsir Ibn Kathir](http://www.qtafsir.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2499&Itemid=77) doesn't specify either option, referring to the topic only as jihad. [Al-Tabari](http://muflihun.com/22/37-43?tafid=8167) is in Arabic. [Tafhim-ul-Quran](http://muflihun.com/22/37-43?tafid=8165) is also not specific.
Do any Muslim scholars talk specifically about whether this allows self-defense, retribution, both, neither?

Haya (Shyness) and how to restore it?
Assalam-o-Alaikum, Brothers and Sisters. I was listening to a very famous Islamic scholar who said and I quote: > **Once you left Haya' from your eyes, It will never return to you. Assalam-o-Alaikum, Brothers and Sisters.
I was listening to a very famous Islamic scholar who said and I quote:
> **Once you left Haya' from your eyes, It will never return to you. There is no cure for this.**
There is a hadith for this
> **إِنَّ أَوَّلَ مَا يُرْفَعُ مِنْ هَذِهِ الأُمَّةِ الْحَيَاءُ وَالأَمَانَةُ ، فَسَلُوهُمَا اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ**
**Verily the first that this Ummah will lose is the shyness (Haya') and trust so keep asking them Allah the almighty.**
I just wanted to ask this community that is there any way to return Haya to ourselves? There is a cure to almost everything, is there any for this? I couldn't find any satisfactory explanation for this.
Jazak Allah for your time.

Dear brothers and sisters
My question regards the type of animals that at first glance don't cause any fatal harm to a human being
So, I wondered for a while if it is allowed to kill mosquitoes who sting you to feed themselves with your blood. I often kill them and cite Surah Al-Ikhlas 3 times and then throw them away in the dustbin.
And I also wonder now if it is permissible to kill animals who bite you without any physical harm except for a scar. (E.g. non-venomous snakes, fire ants, non-venomous spiders, etc...)
Please show your source as you explain how you should deal with those type of animals.
Thank you in advance

Is it permissible to kill a person in order to save my own life?
As far as I know, saving own life is farz. Now, if a person comes to me and holds a gun to my head and wants to kill me, can I defend my life by shooting him if I also have a gun in my hand? Assume I didn't have any intention to kill him before he held the gun to my head.
