Assalamu Alaikum,
My name is Amridin, and I am 15 years old. At my school, we have a dance class that all students are required to attend. In this class, we are learning dances where boys have to touch girls’ hands and spin them.
However, as far as I understand (and I might be wrong), touching a woman who is not my relative (non-mahram) is haram in Islam and not allowed. My father says that touching a woman is not bad, and it is allowed as long as I don’t have any bad intentions. He says that since I’m not doing anything sexual, it is okay. According to him, we live in a modern world and we shouldn’t follow the Qur’an too strictly, because it can lead to extremism.
Now I am confused. I want to obey Allah and also respect my father.
Who is right? And what should I do in this situation?
