Assalamu Aleikum,
I'd like to ask what our prophet meant when he said, **"There are 500 years of distance between each heaven."** I mean, is this '500 years' by walking/marching? I have read some of your fatwas and some tasfers, and it said that 500 years by marching, but I'd like to learn if this is the words of our Prophet or just an interpretation. Can this '500 years' be by riding, at the speed of light, or other kinds of travel? We know for a fact that our universe is so huge, and 500 years of walking is nothing compared to it. Are there other ways to interpret this hadith? Thank you.

How to refute Jeremy England's hypothesis?

Does the Quran actually refer to the expansion of the universe?

According to many Islamic sources, Quran 51:47 refers to the expansion of the universe, a phenomenon that has been made known to us in the recent century.
> And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander. (51:47)
Most of the debate pertaining to this verse is centered on the word 'musioona', and whether it implies an expansion of space in the past, or a continuous & ongoing expansion.
**However, how do we know in the first place that the word 'samaa' used in this verse is referring to the greater universe (i.e heaven)?**
In the Quran, Allah frequently reminds us of rain coming from the sky, as provision for his creation:
> Do you not see that Allah sends down rain from the sky and makes it flow as springs [and rivers] in the earth; .... (39:21)
In verses such as these, the term 'samaa' cannot be used to denote the wider universe, but rather the closer regions of Earth's atmosphere to us.
Just to clarify, I understand that Arabic words can mean multiple things - 'samaa' can be either "sky" or "heaven"- **but is it possible to know for certain which of these meanings is meant in 51:47 (i.e without using a potential scientific interpretation)?**

There are approximately 7.8 billion humans on the earth today. This would mean there are approximately 7792.2 billion of the Yajuj and Majuj, which is a number beyond human comprehension. It seems impossible for such a large group to remain hidden and undiscovered for so long. So are the Yajuj and Majuj really on earth or are they in a completely different place? If they are on earth, how is this possible?

This universe have so many things that we can feel and can't feel.
What is the reason behind such a big creation? Allah states in His book:
> "Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their
> sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth,
> [saying], "**Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are
> You [above such a thing]**; then protect us from the punishment of the
> Fire." [3:191]
and it seems that everyone should have an understanding of the answer to this question then to be able to confess about it the way Allah expects from us, that the creation is not aimless.
What's the Allah's purpose for this creation? What does the Holy Quran says about it?

Salam,
I have a question about the the 7 samaawat. So we know that the word "earth" in the Qur'an only refers to the ground and sea. It doesn't include the clouds, atmosphere etc. Since Arabs then called everything above the earth samaa.
Now in Surah 41:11, it says that Allah talked to the heaven, which was smoke AND to the earth. So it means He talked to the mass of land and water that is the earth, and to everything that's above it (excluding the Arsh and Kursi obv).
In Verse 12 He then says that He made the heaven into 7 heavens, and adorned the lowest heaven with stars.
People now say that this is the universe, but i feel like that's an eisegesis of the text. When reading without a bias, the Qur'an seems to say that the atmosphere is adorned with the stars.
Further reference of the Qur'an treating the earth and atmosphere as separate things are Surah 79:27-30, and Surah 40:64
I'd love an answer akhis, am really confused

A sound tradition from the Messenger of God told us by Hannad b. al-Sari, who also said that he read all of the hadith (to Abu Bakr)- Abu Bakr b. 'Ayyash- Abu Sa'd al-Baqqal- 'Ikrimah- Ibn Abbas: The Jews came to the Prophet and asked him about the creation of the heavens and the earth. He said: God created the earth on Sunday and Monday. He created the mountains and the uses they possess on Tuesday. On Wednesday, He created trees, water, cities and the cultivated barren land. These are four (days). He continued (citing the Qur'an): 'Say: Do you really not believe in the One Who created the earth in two days, and set up others like Him? That is the Lord of the worlds. He made it firmly anchored (mountains) above it and blessed it and decreed that it contain the amount of food it provides, (all) in four days, equally for those asking'- for those who ask. On Thursday, He created heaven. On Friday, He created the stars, the sun, the moon, and the angels, until three hours remained. In the first of these three hours He created the terms (of human life), who would live and who would die. In the second, He cast harm upon everything that is useful for mankind. And in the third, (He created) Adam and had him dwell in Paradise. He commanded Iblis to prostrate himself before Adam, and He drove Adam out of Paradise.....
(Al-Tabari, Abu Ja’far, Tarikh ar-Rusul wal Muluk, Vol.1, 22)
Now there is already a question about this hadith on this site but there is no answer for it so I wanted to post it again since it was bothering me too. Maybe someone will answer this time. If this is sound, how do we understand this? We know that Sun and stars etc were created way before Earth was created. Thank you.

Why did the creation of Earth take longer time than the creation of the Universe?

There's something in the Quran that I don't understand properly. They are from Surah Fussilat (41) verses 9 to 12:
*Say, "Do you indeed disbelieve in He who created the earth in two days and attribute to Him equals? That is the Lord of the worlds."*
*And He placed on the earth firmly set mountains over its surface, and He blessed it and determined therein its [creatures'] sustenance in four days without distinction - for [the information] of those who ask.*
*Then He directed Himself to the heaven while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, "Come [into being], willingly or by compulsion." They said, "We have come willingly."*
*And He completed them as seven heavens within two days and inspired in each heaven its command. And We adorned the nearest heaven with lamps and as protection. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.*
-Quran 41:9-12
It's saying that the earth was created in 2 days and the mountains were created in 4 days. So in total, that's 6 days for the earth. But in the last verse, it says the universe was created in 2 days. Why did the creation of earth take more time than the creation of the universe? It looks like it contradicts science. The earth is much much smaller than the universe. Can someone please give me the explanation for this?
Thank you.

In the verse of chapter 67, verses 3-4. What would be the TRUE interpretation of the "7 heavens being stacked one above the other". Furthermore, in order to actually understand the stacking of the heavens, one must understand what "heaven" really mean physically. Also when Allah (SWT) in this verse talks about "where you see no flaw in the creation of the Most Merciful" here the word "flaw", I have read to be synonymous to inconsistency/un-uniformity/ asymmetry, can we interpret this verse to be that one may never find "inconsistency" in the law of nature with another, where the mathematics and physics don't break down mid-way as it goes on to perform a function. Can it also be interpreted as the mathematical symmetry that we seem to observe in the universe? All in all, what is the true and complete interpretation of this verse in question?

Recently l reconsidered the concept of existence and read some work of Ibn Arabi. I think we face a lot of problems establishing a relation between God and universe in terms of existence, given the Islamic belief of Oneness of God. God is transcendental and nothing resembles him. He is above all comparisons. The universe cannot be said to be a part of God as that would constitute Shirk. The other alternative is to regard the universe as being apart from God but that puts a limit on the being of God , which is also contrary to Islamic belief. I think the only concept that can explain relation between God and universe in terms of existence would have to regard the universe as non existent in reality when compared to God and only existent in relation to absolute non existence ,ie square circles, unicorns etc. The universe acquires existence due to being a part of the unlimited knowledge of God. It can also be said to exist in relation to God as a manifestation of his command, " Be " . We can give different names to this relation but the essential aspect remains the same.
Is this concept acceptable and does it go against the mainstream belief of Ahle sunnah wal Jamah ? Further more, l think it could be a philosophical issue and not a matter of creed, or is it not ?
