How to interpret "A women who reveals her body or even wears tight fitting clothes wont come within 500 years of the smell of Jannah"?
[AskImam][1] quotes the Prophet as saying: > A women who reveals her body or even wears tight fitting clothes wont come within 500 years of the smell of Jannah. and the extended version > Women who are dressed but appear naked, who will be inclined (towards men) and make (men) incline (toward them)....
AskImam quotes the Prophet as saying:
> A women who reveals her body or even wears tight fitting clothes wont come within 500 years of the smell of Jannah.
and the extended version
> Women who are dressed but appear naked, who will be inclined (towards men) and make (men) incline (toward them). They will not enter Jannah and they will not smell its fragrance where as its fragrance can be would be smelt from the distance of 500 years.
I'm struggling to understand this. In particular:
- Am I correct in understanding that this is a quote from the Prophet Muhammad ?
- Does this imply that (believing) women who dress immodestly throughout their lives without repenting will not go to heaven? If so, where do they go?
- How much of their body is required to be revealed before this applies?
- What does "smelt from the distance of 500 years" mean? Distance is not usually measured in years, nor is it smelt.

Assalamu alaikum, I'm a 16 year old girl and since an year he keeps telling me to wear hijab. I understand the importance of wearing a hijab but somehow I'm not really ready yet. But nowdays he kept on forcing me, guilt tripping me by saying he's my father so he can make my decisions and if I don't wear hijab I'll be punished in jahannam. I do not wear any revealing clothes and try to keep myself away from other's prying eyes.
I have no problem with wearing a hijab but I want some time but he's not willing to give me the time and it's making me feel forced, that a thing I'm supposed to start with my whole heart but I've to do it for someone else where we do things like praying , wearing hijab and doing other halal deeds are to satisfy Allah not humans. This thing is really saddening me. What should I do?

Are women in hijab assumed not to be "asking for it" in sexual assault cases?

In cases of sexual assault against women, the victim might be asked questions like *what was she wearing?* leading to the implication that she was somehow "asking for it" (i.e. provoking her attacker) if she was wearing a certain style of clothing, thereby giving the perpetrator a mitigating factor. It's a form of victim blaming :
> A typical expression of victim blaming is the "asking for it" idiom, e.g. "she was asking for it" said of a victim of violence or sexual assault.
I'm wondering what would happen in a sexual assault case brought to a sharia court where the female victim was wearing hijab.
**Question**: Are women in hijab assumed not to be "asking for it" in sexual assault cases?
It's possible the sharia could interpret hijab as an unequivocal expression that she is not "asking for it".

As a Muslim girl I know that wearing a hijab (scarf for covering the hair) is compulsory and I do wear it. But wearing the hijab isn't permitted in the school where I study. They also don't allow other students to use things that would reflect their religion, like a Hindu student is not allowed to use a Bindi on his/her forehead. They say that this promotes equality among the students.
Now I am confused what to do. Is it acceptable not to wear hijab at school in this situation?

Assalamu'alaikum
Dear brothers n sisters in Islam. I am a 23 years old male, and currently in a serious relationship with a girl (my classmate).
One day, while we were hanging out, it is our own activity to play with each other's smartphone (just for fun generally, to check for any suspicious messages from opposite genders' friends and to make other jealous, joke around etc.). We are very strict in term of maintaining distance between us as well as other restrictions because we fear that our relationship might not be blessed the Almighty God (God forbids), so while playing each other's smartphone, if for example I want to open a certain apps on her phone, I would ask her permission first (in fear that there might be pics of her or her female family members exposing their aurah and whatnot).
I was scrolling through her Telegram chat n there was a chat between her and her female bestfriend, I asked her if I can open and read their conversation, she said no problem. Thing is, she might forget this, but upon scrolling through their conversation, I saw a glimpse of her pic without scarf, so for a split second I saw her aurah : her hair.
I frozed and was extremely scared , but I covered it up because if she finds out, she might be extremely mad at me and it'll probably ruin our relationship with marriage goal. After that incident, I felt very disgusted with myself and I can tell that I just made a huge huge mistake, though unintentionally, but it was a very big sin that I committed that I almost threw up alone in my car when I remember the incidence.
My question is, what should I do? Did I just commit a big sin and should I tell my fiancé regarding the matter?
Thank you very much in advance dear brothers and sisters , very sorry for the long explanation.....

This question has ever been asked but i'm asking it again because:
1. The answers given are not concrete
2. Closed (as primarily opinion based)
3. Closed (as too broad)
The questions are as follows:
**First** is there any unambiguous source from Quran and/or Hadith which clearly mentions that Woman should cover their hair ?
**Second**, Now if it is not clear, what are the main sources (e.g. Quran Verse or Hadiths) that were interpreted, if possible for the different madhabs ?
**Third**, how the interpretations has lead to conclusion that Hijab is obligatory, clearly, the interpretations has been performed by different madhabs and in each madhabs, there was a logical entailment from the sources that Hijab is obligatory, in short what was the usool used for deriving this obligation, if possible for each madhabs ?
NB: In no way, I am contesting the principle of Hijab, I am instead pro this practice, and sure that the great mujtahids have put forward such a practice as fard/wajib, then it must be important, i'm only wishing to see the evidence behind or the way they derived the ruling

Salam,
The title sums up 70% of the question.
The scenario is, say a woman refuses to wear hijab because she does not want to wear it(she dresses modestly for the rest of clothing), that is there is no health hazard or other problems. Her husband talks to her, tries to change her mind in all possible ways but she is bent on not wearing it.
In such a scenario will the husband accountable for wife's sin? Is it permissible to marry a woman who does not wear hijab? If such a case occurs after marriage should the husband divorce his wife?
I have done some research but I want a comprehensive, well sourced and compiled opinion from more knowledgeable persons on here.
Thank you

Assalmualaikum,
I attend an American high school and graduation requirement states we must have 4 years of physical education. I understand the requirement but, I’m a niqabi who practices full hijab, and the uniform for PE exposes the shape and curves of my body. I have reached out for a change in classes or even an alternative. This was rejected and I was told to basically “suck it up” and that this issue was only my discomfort with changing in the locker rooms. I was also told that this was a new problem I was bringing up and that no other Muslim students had complained about it. In this case what can I do?

I sometimes come across claims that many of the obligations that Muslims have in Islam are a purely personal matter and were not legally enforced, historically. It's not quite clear to me which obligations fall into which category ("purely personal" vs "can/used to be legally enforced"), or whether it's even the case that all behaviors that are fardh can be legally enforced via tazir punishments in case someone does not act on those obligations. I might ask about that in a separate question.
Here I'm specifically wondering about whether the obligation to wear hijab in public can be enforced legally in sharia by the government, perhaps via tazir punishments (or any other way), and when and where it generally was enforced, historically?
