and if so, how should we interpret these narrations, given that Islam prohibits such displays of mourning? I have also heard that the prohibition applies to making such actions a habitual or deliberate practice, while instinctive reactions due to overwhelming grief may not be considered sinful. Is this true?

Women not allowed during burial
Why women are not allowed to attend the burial of someone? If a person dies, then he can be a father or brother of a woman, then doesn't she have the right to attend the burial procession?

Assalamualaikum,
I would be grateful if anybody in this forum could please provide evidence based on quran and sunnah as to whether it is permissible to attend a nonmuslim funeral service for **a deceased person who was a muslim**? (If the sources could be cited/quoted that would also be good so that we can disseminate the basis of your judgement to other family members.)
The context is that my granduncle reverted to islam when he married my grandaunt, a practising muslim, about 50 years ago. Recently he also reaffirmed his shahadah. He resides in a nonmuslim country.
We, the family, therefore believe he is muslim.
However his will does not state anything about funeral arrangements. Some members of his nonmuslim (christian) family have been named as executors, and have allowed us to come to their **Christian funeral service** for him at the church.
This is the basis of the question above.
If we were to **attend** and sit but **not participate (sing read etc) in any religious rites** (therefore coming only as representatives of my grandaunt to her husband's funeral, and with a view that this would encourage a favourable view of Islam inshaallah among the nonmuslim attendees), would this be permissible in islam?
I am very grateful and thank you for your consideration of this question. The family would greatly appreciate a response as soon as possible as the funeral ceremony might be happening in the next few days.
Jazakumullah.
Wassalam.

Is this narration correct, if its correct how does it take care of any discharges from anus and private part post death? Secondly how does she know shes going to die in few minutes or hours? Doesn't this contradict Shia view of imams only being inheritors of knowledge?

I recently came across a quote on FB that was claimed as being a hadith. The summary of the quote was that after the janazah and burial of one's deceased parent, one should stay at their grave, reciting surahs and duas for them for such an amount of time that is equivalent to the time it takes a person to slaughter a camel, skin it and to cut and distribute its meat. Otherwise, the deceased feels as if they have been set adrift in the sea without any support.
I wanted to confirm whether this is actually a hadith or not, before forwarding it to others.

And I do assume that the necessity of to bury a body imply the necessity of performing salat al-Janazah I just want to know whether my assumption is right.
I hope for answers with evidences that cover an approved fiqh opinion on the matter.

I understand that there are eight schools of jurisprudence according to the Amman Message of 2004 (disregarding the doubts I've seen some people express about its wording). My essay is on the impacts that these madhhabs, in conjunction with local cultures, have on the Muslim funeral. However, all the sources I've found tend to treat funeral customs as a monolith.
I'd really appreciate if anyone could direct me to sources that detail the differences in how Muslims following different schools of thought might practice death rites-- if there's any at all.
Thank you in advance for your help!

As per instructions of prophet abu bakr arranged for burial where the prophet died. Prophet passed away in Aishas Room.
> The Prophets are buried where they die.”
al-Mughni, 2/193
Since the area is sealed for all Muslims in present day. Why will eesa bin maryam be buried in this room?
> “The description of Muhammad is written in the Torah and (it is also written) that ʻEesa, son of Mary, will be buried with him.” Abu Mawdood said, “There remains in the room (of ‘Aa’ishah) the space of a grave.” Abu ʻEesa (At-Tirmithi) may Allaah have mercy upon him commented, “This Hadeeth is Hasan Ghareeb." (Jami' at-Tirmidhi )
I'm assuming eesa bin maryam dies outside Aishas Room. Will eesa be considered as a ruler only and not prophet?

Asalaamu Alaykum, I wanted to ask, a lot of people in my culture do something called a “Khatam” after the janaza, where all the men will gather in the mosque for 3 days and the women in a house, and they’ll sit for these 3 days reading Qur’an and they’ll serve food to everyone in the gathering. They’ll even have the seeds of eaten dates where they’ll be reciting something on each of them and placing them in to a bowl.
Also they’ll ask people in the gathering to read a certain Surah or chapter from the Qur’an, a certain amount of times and to inform them once they’ve done so.
So I wanted to ask if there’s anything in the Sunnah about this, because to me this seems like an innovation and something made up.

If I remember well -correct me if I'm wrong- usually the duration for a the grief or mourning for a death person in Islam is of three days.
Now if a Muslim died in a non-Muslim country where the death body is not allowed to be buried unless the legal paperwork is done which takes 1-2 days and then the family must find an adequate graveyard where Muslims are buried. It might already take 3 or 4 days (and even more if the person for example died in the weekend) for all of this ... this made me wonder if the grief or mourning for the wife (wives) and female relatives starts with the death of the person or with the burial?
So my question is: How long is the per Islam prescribed grief for a death relative and when does this grief actually starts?

I have two questions which are basically derived from https://islam.stackexchange.com/q/51051/13438 .
According to what I've seen in practice the funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah) is held once the dead body was purified by ghusl and brought to the next mosque at a time of a daily prayer. It is usually performed after the fard prayer and then usually the congregation moves with the dead body to the graveyard.
So does this mean that as per Islam a burial must be performed right or soon after the janazah prayer or are there differences of opinion? (If so please give some basic details like: opinion and who held the opinion)
Secondly for relatives and friends who are far away there's the possibility of salat al-Ghaa'ib in cases as in that of the linked post it might be possible that some people performed the prayer before the actual salat al-Janazah or burial is this permissible?
