Is this hadith authentic at all?

The Twelvers (Jafari school of thought within Shia sect) believe that Imam Al-Mahdi will re-appear at the day of Judgement, while a small faction (known as the Mustali's) within Shia's Ismaili (also known as the Seveners) community believe that Tayyib will re-appear at the day of Judgement, where both Imam Al-Mahdi and Tayyib are in what these respective communities call as occultation (i.e. not visible to the sight but exists). They believe that he will come to save the world from oppression. According to the hadiths, many people will join his as his soldiers. My question is that who will be his soldiers to help him to fight against oppressors? In fact, will all of his soldiers be Shiite or is it feasible that many other people join him from other sects or even from other religions? *Note: I'm looking for the answer from Shia's perspective.*

According to the perspective of Shiite, Imam Mahdi (a.j.) (another name: Imam Zaman) will reappear as the last Imam of Shiite to save the world from the oppression. I'd like to know what will precisely occur. Actually I mean will the world be finished after a short and limited time (by governorship of him)? (As a world which would be without any oppression) Or the world is going to begin a new and long period of life that won't be clear when it is going to be finished? (Sunni view) Note: On the whole, I am looking for Sunni view about the mentioned issue, even though they agree the matter by another name (except Mahdi) as the savior of the world. Since narration exists to prove eesa will be ruler for 40 years. Can the Mahdi find out he is the mahdi by looking at the identification marks from the hadith or will he remain completely clueless till the time arrives?

The Mahdi will come as a sign that Hour is getting closer. We have also been told that he will be from the Family of the Prophet (saw) as he will be related to Fatima. I have heard that he will be here for about 7-8 years. Now Is that 7-8 years that he will rule or 7-8 years of his entire life? Will he be born on Earth or will he just appear as a grown man? Have we been told any of this?

What does exactly this hadith means? > كل راية ترفع قبل قيام القائم ، فصاحبها طاغوت يعبد من دون الله عز وجل Some Shia scholars according to this hadith prove that each ruling (government) before the uprising of the Qaim (One who rises) is counted as cruel (Idolatrous) ruling. And effort to establishing a ruling is also counted useless and against Shia beliefs. Does this hadith exactly mean what I mentioned above or what else?

I am doing a research and trying to figure out an answer to my question: Throughout centuries numerous people have claimed to be Mahdi the savior, some have been killed right away, some have died yet they have gathered some followers that are still following their claim. So how are we to distinguish a fake Mahdi from *The Mahdi* himself? What are the **key attributes** that once someone claims to be Mahdi we could assess and then say: "No! This person is a fake" Or "Subhanallah he is the Mahdi". Please give me answers that are logical, yet with proof from Quran and narrations, I would like to hear both Sunni and Shiite views. Just have in mind that I am considering that surely there would be a savior known as Mahdi.

I have a friend that although born in a Muslim family, will not accept Islamic resources for proof and only accepts reasoning, so how would I prove scientifically Imam Mahdi's long life to him as a Twelver Shia? Quranic reasoning would be appreciated but not required.

My question: How someone can know and be sure that he is the representative of the imam Mahdi ?
