Is the Qur'an a book?
This may seem like a strange question at first, since well, we can literally see that the Qur'an is a book: [![Image source: Wikimedia commons][1]][1] And we often refer to it as a book. This may seem like a strange question at first, since well, we can literally see that the Qur'an is a book:
And we often refer to it as a book. And the Qur'an refers to itself as a book (Qur'an 5:15 : "...There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book."). However, it doesn't seem that straightforward:
- القرآن al-Qurʾān means "the recitation" (Wikipedia ), which suggests the sequence of words in the Qur'an is what makes it the Qur'an, not the medium on which it's written,
- the Qur'an was transmitted through "oral memorization and recitation" (see: https://islam.stackexchange.com/q/28370/17163) , i.e., the Qur'an existed before it was in book format, and
- I have the Qur'an on my computer in pdf format; we don't likewise call the Qur'an e.g. the "holy pdf" of Islam.
**Question**: Is it technically correct to refer to the Qur'an as a book?
This is a bit of a philosophical question: identifying the essence of the Qur'an, that which if we took it away, we would no longer have a Qur'an.
----
*Update* (or: what I've learned since I first posted this question):
- Another question highlights that the word *kitab* (کتاب), which means "book ", is used in Qur'an 2:2 to refer to itself https://islam.stackexchange.com/q/14927/17163
- III-AK-III writes the *Qur'an did not, does not, and will not rely on manuscripts* in an answer to https://islam.stackexchange.com/q/46748/17163 This answer quotes the ayah:
> Rather, the Qur'an is distinct verses [preserved] within the breasts of those who have been given knowledge. And none reject Our verses except the wrongdoers.
> Qur'an 29:49
- Wikipedia writes: When referring to the physical bound volume, some use the term *mus'haf* (مصحف).

Quran is an eternal word of God which is uncreated, that I know but, For example, if a non-Muslim burns a copy of the Quran, he has burnt the Quran itself or a copy of the Quran composed of pages & letters written via pen/ink?
How is the majority opinion that Quran is uncreated even in books according to the answers here ??

I once had pre-ejaculation on my hand, and I did not wash it. However I went ahead and I sat and touched everywhere on the carpet.
With this being said, I don’t know if the impurity transferred or not because, my hand wasn’t neither wet or dry. It was more to like a moist matter. HOWEVER my hand was 100% not wet to a point where if I touch the carpet or a think peice of cloth it will soak it.
Due to this; I now feel there is impurity on my carpet, and I cannot make wudu because I keep thinking if I step on the impurity with wet/moist feet, it will transfer to me and I when I step on my wudu mat then this will become impure aswell because my feet were wet.
Can someone please give me some insights on this? Jazak Allahu Khairan

As far as I know, If a Person is not a muslim, then He or her has not chance to go to Jannah. If the person is a disbeliever because he has never known the existence of Islam, then he can be accepted into Jannah.
My question is:
Let's say there is a Christian, and he knows the existence of Islam, and he respect it as a religion, but he still holds onto his.
This person spent all his life helping others, doing a lot of volunteering in Africa and in Asia just to save and help lives ecc... and sacrificing his whole life for others.
Now, is this person still not accepted into Jannah? does he really have to spend the eternity in hell, even if his life was full of only good deeds?

> Narrated Nafi:
Whenever Ibn `Umar was asked about marrying a Christian lady or a Jewess, he would say: "Allah has made it unlawful for the believers to marry ladies who ascribe partners in worship to Allah, and I do not know of a greater thing, as regards to ascribing partners in worship, etc. to Allah, than that a lady should say that Jesus is her Lord although he is just one of Allah's slaves."
Ibn Umar clearly believed it was prohibited to marry Christian woman due to her shirk.
Before you say the Quran clearly it says it’s allowed to marry Christians so it doesn’t matter it doesn’t.
The Quran uses the term People of the Book loosely.
> “And He brought down those who supported them among the People of the Scripture1 from their fortresses and cast terror into their hearts [so that] a party [i.e., their men] you killed, and you took captive a party [i.e., the women and children].”- Quran 33:26
In this verse of the Quran Allah uses the term people of the book just for the Jews of Banu Qurayza.
So Quran 5:5 can just be talking about Jews and Sabians excluding the Christians.
Why don’t scholars adopt this view?

Is it haram to marry a Christian woman?
The fornicator does not marry except a [female] fornicator or polytheist, and none marries her except a fornicator or a...
Allah says in the Qu'ran:
>الزَّانِي لَا يَنكِحُ إِلَّا زَانِيَةً أَوْ مُشْرِكَةً وَالزَّانِيَةُ لَا يَنكِحُهَا إِلَّا زَانٍ أَوْ مُشْرِكٌ ۚ وَحُرِّمَ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
The fornicator does not marry except a [female] fornicator or polytheist, and none marries her except a fornicator or a polytheist, and that has been made unlawful to the believers.
> [[Verse 24:3](https://quran.com/24/3)]
In [this answer](https://islam.stackexchange.com/questions/8622/relationship-and-sex-between-a-muslim-woman-and-non-muslim-man) , user 2350 stated (based on the above verse):
> Basically Muslim are not permitted to marry a polytheist nor an adulterer, otherwise he/she will be considered as the same.
That means that you cannot get married to a polytheist.
Nowadays, most Christians believe in Trinity, which we say is polytheism. **Does that mean marrying Christians is haram even though the Quran allows marriage to Christians?**
*This is not a duplicate of this because the question is about marrying non-chaste people of the book while my question is about marrying any Christian, be she chaste or not.*

I recently reverted to Islam. The girl I'm dating is ok with that. We have talk about marriage and she's Evangelical Christian. I know Islam allows for Muslim men to marry Christian and Jewish women, however it does specifies that they must be "chaste" (as per what the Quran says as I understand). And she's not, she as me was sexually active before we met, and also she was molested as a child thus loosing her virginity in a non-consensual way to begin with.
But I wonder if the chastity part in the Quran refers to the idea they should be virgins before marriage or just that they should be celibate (as for example a rape victim is not virgin but can't be consider that she choose to have sex). Thank you.

In 52:21 we are talking about believers and about Paradise and it is said that everyone is a hostage of what he did. That is, believers will receive Paradise for what they did.
> And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith -
> We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them

But at 74:38-39, the hostage position does not apply to believers.
