How to include Father’s first name as daughter’s last name?
Father’s first name is Allah’s name(Abdul Hameed), how to use the same as last name for daughter. For example, we are naming her Maheen. Would that be correct to name Maheen Abdul Hameed or Maheen Hameed.

What is the correct way to spell the Prophet's name in English?
What is the correct way to spell the Prophet's name? Muhammad, Mohammad, Muhammed, Mohammed, Mohamed, or Mohumed? Wikipedia spells it Muhammad (so does this site's tag: [tag:prophet-muhammad]), though I'm running into people with variations on the spelling quite often.

Can one give the name of an angel to a child? Is Mikael a suitable name?
My name is Mikael and I am getting paranoid if this is actually a permissible Islamic/Arabic name or not? I come from a Muslim family and my mother always told me it is taken from an angels name. But I always look at lists of Muslim names online and I can never see my name, or at least my spelling.

As far as I know, Muslims should have such names that people find them easily identifiable.
In some countries -
- Muslims are given such a name that people find it difficult to perceive his/her religion.
- Sometimes, it becomes hard to recognize their religion because of the language difference.
For example,
- Turkish names *Tansu Çiller*, *Hulusi Akar*, etc.
- American names *Linda Sarsour*, *Sada Cumber*, etc.
- Russian names *Mikhail Gutseriev*, *Nail Yakupov*, etc.
- Indonesian names *Megawati Sukarnoputri*, *Joko Widodo*, etc.
- Pakistani names *Gul Panra*, *Lal Shehjadi*, etc.
- Bengali names *Siddharth Sazal*, *Aaruk Munshi*, etc.
What does Islam say about that? Please answer according to Quran and/or Hadith.
**Note:** direct citation of Hadith and Koran needed.

All the first names I noted are the names of Almighty Allah. Often I hear that such names are not allowed in Islam because those are qualitative names of Allah and we as human cannot expect those within ourselves.
However, adding an **Abd** is fine. For example, **Abdur Rahman** is OK because it means Slave of Rahman.
Is this a fact? What are the references?

Is it haram to give grandfather's first name to a child as her surname?
I want to ask that I was recently blessed with a daughter and my husband gave her his father's name as her surname (my daughter's grandfather) instead of giving his own name to her. Like her name is "fatima mansoor" instead of "fatimah usman". So is it permissible to do this in islam?

Ruling on keeping the father's name in Islam
Quran says: *“Call them by their fathers’ (names), it is more just with Allaah” [33:5]* Muhammad (pbuh) said: *“Whoever ascribes himself to someone other than his (real) father, knowing that he is not his (real) father, Paradise is forbidden for him!” [al-Bukhaaree and Muslim]* From these, it's pret...
Quran says:
*“Call them by their fathers’ (names), it is more just with Allaah” [33:5]*
Muhammad (pbuh) said:
*“Whoever ascribes himself to someone other than his (real) father, knowing that he is not his (real) father, Paradise is forbidden for him!” [al-Bukhaaree and Muslim]*
From these, it's pretty clear that not keeping the family name is a major sin in Islam. However, what if someone changed his family name to his first name or middle name? Is that haram as well?
For example: Abdullah Sulayman changes his name to Abdullah Sulayman Latif. Technically, he hasn't removed his father's name (Sulayman) from his name but he has changed his surname to Latif. Is this haram? He's not breaking any rules from the Quran or the hadith. His father's name is still there.
Another example: Fatima Ali marries a Abdullah Latif and she changes her name to Fatima Ali Latif. Is this permissible? Because technically, her father's name is still there.

I want to know, should I change my name, as Naila is name of idol mentioned in Quran? We do not worship any idols and have a belief that Allah is one and only one God. We were unaware of this thing earlier, but now when we got to know this, what should I do?
Will I, or my parents, receive punishment from Allah (SWT) as meaning of my name is mention as idol worship here?
