Can we have a dog as pet as long as we don't touch its saliva?
A friend of mine have a dog pet. i asked her if it's allowed in islam and she said it's okay as long as we don't touch the saliva. She also means that petting dog is allowed. Is it true? is there any Ayat Al-qur'an to prove this?

Walking outside?
I live in a super dog-friendly city, there are dogs everywhere! While I totally understand the importance of not letting them lick everything, I can’t help but wonder if I should also be concerned about the fact that we’re constantly walking on spots where dogs have peed?

Assalamu alaykum, I live in Canada and enjoy outdoor activities like biking, hiking, and camping. In my area, it is quite common to encounter wild animals such as coyotes, bobcats, and even bears. Recently, I encountered a coyote while biking. Last year, I came across a bear cub while camping. While nothing serious happened in either case, I know that such encounters can sometimes turn dangerous in my area. Given this reality, I’m wondering if it would be permissible in Islam to keep a dog primarily for safety during these outdoor activities. I live in an apartment, so the dog would also be staying with me indoors, though I would try to keep it in a separate area as much as possible. I understand that in Islam there are specific rulings about keeping dogs, but I would appreciate clarification in the context of living in a non-Muslim country where such safety precautions are considered normal.

Extremely authentic and crystal clear hadiths on k!lling dogs - how do we come to peace with it?

**Sahih Muslim #2015** Maimuna reported that one morning Allah’s Messenger was silent with grief. Maimuna said: Allah’s Messenger, I find a change in your mood today. Allah’s Messenger said: Gabriel had promised me that he would meet me tonight, but he did not meet me. By Allah, he never broke his promises, and Allah’s Messenger spent the day in this sad mood. Then it occurred to him that there had been a puppy under their cot. He commanded and it was turned out. He then took some water in his hand and sprinkled it at that place. When it was evening Gabriel met him and he said to him: You promised me that you would meet me the previous night. He said: Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture. Then on that very morning he commanded the k!lling of the dogs until he announced that the dog kept for the orchards should also be k!lled, but he spared the dog meant for the protection of extensive fields or big gardens. ****Sunan Abi Dawud #2845** (Sahih - Al Albaani)** Narrated Abdullah ibn Mughaffal: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Were dogs not a species of creature I should command that they all be k!lled; but k!ll every pure black one. **Sahih al-Bukhari #3323** Narrated Abdullah bin `Umar: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ordered that the dogs should be k!lled. I have no idea how this is justifiable. From whatever justifications I've seen, they say its 1) The "dogs" are not dogs but hyenas, wolf, etc, if thats really the case then the scholars wouldn't cite these hadiths to say why we shouldn't pet dogs, or in the worst case to prove that its Sunnah to k!ll black dogs (even if they are not evil). 2) The dogs were disease causing and violent hence the Prophet allowed the k!llings - however they donot cite any authentic references for this, its just an assumption. So from whatever material available, im getting the picture from the first hadith that the he ordered the k!llings of dogs just because a puppy under his bed prevented Angel Gabriels from entering his house. If there is any better explaination to these hadiths please mention it below.

I’m aware that since i’m muslim i can’t own a dog . However have situation and can’t find right answer . My very good friend (non muslim) owns small dog (2 month old ) which usually sit in barrier at home for now . She is traveling now and arranged with another friend to take care of the dog but that lady unfortunately didn’t care much and dog ended up almost dying in vet clinic so they needed to do surgery for him (dog ate some plastic while was with another lady ) . My very good friend is panicking as that lady couldn’t take care properly . She doesn’t have much money to pay for one week hotel and prefer for him to recover at home (she paid very expensive surgery just now for the dog ) .So she asked if i can help and until she come back from that travel take care of her dog as she trusts only me now . Is it fine if dog will be allocated in one corner in his barrier for this period ?

AsSalamuAlaikum, Sir! My mother has a pet dog and she is very fond of it. When she prays the dog sits besides her and sometimes sniffs or touches her during her prayer! I have warned her a lot regarding this, as I know Angels don't stay in the room or house where a dog is kept. Note: it is not even a guard dog but a pet. Unfortunately, my mother doesn't listen to me, or anybody else, about the Islamic boundaries of keeping a dog! It has been almost two years that she has been praying with the dog sitting just beside her and sleeps keeping it besides her bed. Her statement is, "there is no ayats from Al-Quran or any authentic hadith that says dogs may cause invalidation of prayer or cause impurity." I am very worried about her! Please give me some advice on what I should do or tell her about keeping a dog while praying?

Assalamou ailekom I would like to know if my prayers are accepted or not if I have a dog in the my house. My brother adopted it without permission from us but we had to keep it since we got emotionally attached to it. I know that angels don't enter the houses of people who keep their dogs in their houses and that's dogs are just permissible if they are guard dogs. We see it as a pet but it can serve as a guard dog too maybe because when guests or strangers are comming to our house the dog goes to window so we know that someone is coming. So I'm a little confused if it's a sin or not in our case to keep the dog. Thank you in advance.

Please I need some clarification. If God does not like dogs to be kept as pets, why did he create them to be loving and caring? Why is it not in the Quran that having a dog pet is Haram? I learnt a prostitute woman gave water to a starving dog and God forgave her sins and she went to heaven: > Allah's Messenger said, "A prostitute was forgiven by Allah, because, passing by a panting dog near a well and seeing that the dog was about to die of thirst, she took off her shoe, and tying it with her head-cover she drew out some water for it. So, Allah forgave her because of that." (sunnah.com ) It says in the Quran: > It is We who relate to you, [O Muhammad], their story in truth. Indeed, they were youths who believed in their Lord, ... > > We would have certainly spoken, then, an excessive transgression. These, our people, have taken besides Him deities. ... > > He whom Allah guides is the [rightly] guided, but he whom He leaves astray - never will you find for him a protecting guide. And you would think them awake, while they were asleep. **And We turned them to the right and to the left, while their dog stretched his forelegs at the entrance.** If you had looked at them, you would have turned from them in flight and been filled by them with terror. -- Qur'an 18:13-18 The dwellers of the cave were with their dog. God called them "true muslims" (surah Kahf). It says only in the hadith that a dog pet is not allowed in Islam. E.g. > The Prophet said, "Whoever keeps a (pet) dog which is neither a watch dog nor a hunting dog, will get a daily deduction of two Qirat from his good deeds." (sunnah.com ) My Imam told me anything that contradicts what the Quran says is untrue. Therefore, is that hadith about dogs untrue? Because it clearly contradicts the Quran.

As-salamu alaikum I have been contemplating reverting to islam for the last couple of months. It is not something I take lightly by any means. There are still however certain things in which I feel deep within my bones must have exceptions one of which is the use of dogs. Now I am not a huge animal person in general (growing up animals were only allowed in certain parts of the house) I do however struggle with extreme mental health issues that I have sought out treatment for the last 7 years or so ( extensive therapy, various medications and other treatments. It is to the point I would call it a disability) although thy seemed to help some nothing has helped as much as my puppy that I got about 5 months ago. I was struggling to the worst degree I have ever struggled truly wanting to die, not getting out of bed or taking care of myself drinking in excess, complete despair until I got my little lab and I feel like Allah sent her to me. She has helped me get out of bed nearly every morning (maybe 5 mornings total in the past 5 and a half months where I couldn't get up to take care of her) as well as stay out of bed as she needs attention, she has forced me to go on walks talk to others and motivated me to continue treatment and quit drinking. She has the best temperament of a puppy I have ever met and has helped me through panic attacks and calmed me down so I wouldnt harm myself. I never thought an animal could so drastically change my quality of life but she has. I now live on my own work part time and am getting my life back together after the last 10 months of pain and bad circumstances. As a woman it is also comforting to know I have a dog around and she deters the wildlife around. My point is she is the main reason I have gained so much progress and peace. Why would God/Allah allow so much help to come from a puppy when they are haram? I can honestly say I would not be able to function without her, I am working on training her to help with my panic attacks even more by notifying me of my breathing and doing deep pressure therapy. She is the best least mouthy and good listener for a puppy I have ever met and many people agree that she has an unusually good temperament. I am very allergic to cats so I know that would not be a solution and for the first time in my life I feel independent and capable largely due to her help. She is technically a hunting breed, but I do not hunt and I am not looking for a loophole like training her to hunt just to keep her after she has done so much for me as Allah knows our intensions. But why would he bring her to me if I am not supposed to keep her in my home? How will other muslims understand that she is more like a service dog than a pet? Will I be accepted if I am not strong enough to change things(because quite frankly she keeps me healthy and alive)? wa’l-salaamu ‘alaykum

I have been struggling quite a bit in my current shared accommodation. My non-Muslim roommates are dirty and listen to music (often during prayer/salah times). So I've been looking for a bachelor suite for myself for a long time. I've just found what I feel is a very, very good deal - an affordable place in a really beautiful neighborhood. I've paid the security deposit and I plan to move in next month. I now remember that the landlord who lives upstairs mentioned he has a small dog (i.e., not a guard or hunting dog). I am now all over the place gasping for air. I know having a pet dog in the house is prohibited and that angels don't enter homes with a pet dog. My question is, does that apply to me? I have a separate basement suite and it has a separate entrance. I am willing to let go of the deposit and look for a new place if it is indeed haram for me, but I want to be sure. Can someone point me in the right direction. Maybe a hadith that talks about a dog living in the premises but not in the person's direct apartment?
