Yesterday I came across [a quote](https://www.azquotes.com/quote/1090537) that was associated with St. Augustine of Hippo which shocked me and I was wondering if this is a real quote by St. Augustine or is it another fake quotation by him? It's from his [Literal Meaning of Genesis](https://thegreatthinkers.org/augustine/major-works/the-literal-meaning-of-genesis-415/) and is a warning to Christians about interpreting the Bible in a way which may damage science. > We must be on our guard against giving interpretations which are > hazardous or opposed to science, and so exposing the word of God to > the ridicule of unbelievers

Is being thankful for Jesus' death biblical?
Are there any examples in the Bible of people being thankful that Jesus died, or promoting the practice of thanking God/Jesus for Jesus' death? I'm asking specifically about his death, not life or resurrection.

Arguments have been made for the crucifixion **not** being on a Friday. In particular, it is obvious that there are not three nights between Friday and Sunday; Friday night and Saturday night are only two nights. Thus, I am puzzled; why is the Good Friday hypothesis consistently treated as truth by almost everyone?

My understanding is that the Unitarian Universalist Association has no creed, but its name suggests otherwise. As a Unitarian church, are its members expected to deny the Trinity or Jesus' status as the Son of God? The second label, "Universalist," suggests a belief that everybody will eventually go to heaven. Does this imply an expectation that members profess belief in an afterlife?

According to Chalcedonian Trinitarians, why did Jesus not mention himself at John 4:23?
John 4:23 has Jesus saying > "But a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will > worship **the Father in spirit and in truth**, for **the Father** is seeking > such as these to worship **Him**." John 4:23 has Jesus saying > "But a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will > worship **the Father in spirit and in truth**, for **the Father** is seeking > such as these to worship **Him**." According to Chalcedonian Trinitarians, Jesus = God and is co-equal with the Father. Why did he leave himself out in this passage? It would be an obvious opportunity to teach the Samaritan woman that God is a Trinity and Jesus is God, yet instead Jesus identifies himself as the Messiah in the same section. How do Chalcedonic Trinitarians explain this passage?

What is the word used for "devil" in Mel Gibson's movie "The Passion of the Christ" during the scene where Christ is interrogated by the Sanhedrin? The word "devil" appears in the English subtitles three times in this scene as a couple of characters give testimony against Christ. It sounds to me like they're saying "sha-dai-ah." When I search for what I'm hearing I find El Shaddai , which is the Hebrew word for "God Almighty," not "devil." I know that the dialog of this film is in Aramaic, Hebrew, and Latin. I can distinguish the Latin dialog from the rest, but I can't distinguish between the Aramaic and Hebrew. I think that Hebrew is used during the Sanhedrin scene.

Is the resurrection of Col 3:1 the millennium?
The two verses bear many of the same referents. If this were the case then many of what I refer to as "delusions" regarding the end times can be shown to be without merit. > Col 3:1 ¶ If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of G...
The two verses bear many of the same referents. If this were the case then many of what I refer to as "delusions" regarding the end times can be shown to be without merit. > Col 3:1 ¶ If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Paul plainly refers to resurrection in Col 3:1. He suggests that His readers had already experienced this resurrection. It appears to be the same resurrection that He speaks of in Romans chapter 6:5. > Ro 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: In particular, Col 3:1 seems to correspond with Revelation 20:5. > Re 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

In case of a global catastrophe (nuclear war or something similar), a big majority of the global population would die, including pope, all bishops, all priests, all deacons. In all churches with apostolic succession (Catholic, Orthodox,...). However, there will be a small community of lay catholic people in one place. Let's say ten thousands, including theologically educated adults. What would be subsequent life of Catholic church? - Would catholic church exist? I am not asking on the sacramental life that would be most likely limited to baptism and matrimony only. I am asking whether we would speak about catholic church. Not just believers, but church itself. Are there any supportive or declining references in the official teaching of the church for "yes" or "no"?

We have the concept of purgatory. I read in different places that purgatory happens after death. But what should be stated clearly is whether they mean physical death or spiritual death when discussing this topic. Nobody on Earth is wise enough to explain what happens after physical death, so I'm interested in this concept after spiritual death while still alive, because that's what people care about to stay healthy and alive. Can someone explain how a person goes into purgatory, and how to get out? I'd prefer an answer from the Catholic religion.

Before beginning my question, I'd like to clarify what I mean by 'Apostolic Christian'. By this, I mean anyone in the Assyrian, Oriental Orthodox, Eastern Orthodox, or Roman Catholic Communions. The book of Sirach is a deuterocanonical book rejected by most Protestants as Scripture, but accepted as Scripture by most everyone else. It has several verses that are extremely problematic *prima facie* relating to women; all quotations are from the NSRV-CI. > For from garments comes the moth,\ > and from a woman comes woman’s wickedness.\ > Better is the wickedness of a man than a woman who does good;\ > it is woman who brings shame and disgrace.\ > -Sirach 42:13-14 > From a woman sin had its beginning,\ > and because of her we all die....\ > If she [that is, your wife] does not go as you direct,\ > separate her from yourself.\ > -Sirach 25:24,26 > It is a disgrace to be the father of an undisciplined son,\ and the birth of a daughter is a loss.\ -Sirach 22:3 > He who acquires a wife gets his best possession,\ a helper fit for him and a pillar of support.\ Sirach 36:29 Unfortunately, I could quote many more. Jesus ben Sirach here says that women's goodness is worse than man's wickedness; that women were the originators of sin; that if wives do not listen to you, they should be abandoned; that wives are possessions; and that, of course, the birth of a daughter is a loss. When discussing a headstrong daughter, he is incredibly obscene: > As a thirsty traveler opens his mouth\ and drinks from any water near him,\ so she will sit in front of every tent peg\ and open her quiver to the arrow.\ -Sirach 26:15 How do folks who accept this book as inspired Scripture interpret these in light of the Gospel? Patristic citations are both welcome and appreciated.
