I've heard and read proofs that writing fictional stories are haram. Some people, like me, are given talents of writing poems and stories and the like. I've made up a story that is really beneficial and I've always dreamed of sharing this with people, but the main character was born with strange powers (growing claws and teleporting, i.e. moving from place to place in a second.) The story goes on about how he is trying to live despite the people who are chasing after him to end him. Is it haram if I write something like this? If it is haram, can I make him inherit the power by one of his ancestors who was injected by an undiscovered drug?

Also will I be sinful if I read it? Is there any possibility that I might get diverted to some false faith if I read this?

**Authentically Attributed Books from the Salaf: Mainly Authorship and Transmission**
Assalamualaikum,
The books attributed to the early generations (Sahabah, Tabi‘in, and Atba‘ al-Tabi‘in). Some of these works are well-documented as having been written or dictated by the authors. Imam Malik's Muwatta is widely accepted as a book that can be reliably traced back to him through a single narrator (yahya bin yahya), ensuring its authenticity as his direct work.I've heard similar things about Maghazi of Musa ibn ‘Uqbah, which is also considered a direct contribution of his but not sure if that's true, Allahuaalam.
But for instance, discussions on this forum have pointed out that Tafseer Mujahid is not truly a written work of Mujahid himself but rather a collection compiled through many different narrators in its chain. This raises an important question about attribution: Can we call a book the work of a scholar if it is merely a collection of narrations attributed to him rather than something he compiled himself?
If we were to compile all the ahadith that include Abu Huraira in the chain and label them as “**Abu Huraira’s book**”, that would be incorrect. This is because the role of an author like Imam Bukhari was not merely to collect narrations but also to arrange them purposefully—through chaptering, sequence selection, and the placement of opening and closing ahadith—beyond its raw content.
**Other Authentically Written Books from the Salaf**
This brings us to the central question: *What other books from the earliest generations of Islam(first 3), Tafseers, Seerahs, Ahadith Collections or other works can be confidently attributed to their authors?*
If we consider Imam al-Shafi‘i as an Atba‘ al-Tabi‘in, we do have clearly documented books like Al-Risalah and Al-Umm, then ofcourse the Muwatta and Maghaazi or Ibn 'Uqbah. But beyond these, identifying works or similar writings from this period is challenging.
For instance:
Tafseer Ibn Jurayj – Is it a direct book authored by Ibn Jurayj himself, I have found it difficult to verify this.
Tafseer Maqatil ibn Sulayman – Does an authentic version of this work exist, and was it actually written by him?
Tafseer Sufyan al-Thawri – Can we confidently say this is his book, or is it another case of later transmission and compilation?
The Virtues of Makkah (Sheikh Hasan Al Basri) - is it truly by him?
**SUMMARIZED QUESTION**
Are there any books from the Companions, the Tabi‘in, or the Atba‘ al-Tabi‘in that we can be certain were truly authored or dictated by them? If so, which ones? And in cases where authorship is disputed, how can we determine whether a work is genuinely their book or merely a later compilation of their statements?
Looking forward to insights on this topic!
JazakAllah

Today I was reading a few Hadith in Arabic I have read before many times before online and I noticed I did not remember some words in the Hadith. (I unfortunately do not have any physical Hadith books for reference.)
This is a bit concerning, but I want to know for sure if there is a mistake on the websites, or if it's something with me. Brothers and sisters outside of the US and/or with access to a physical Hadith book, can you verify if the Arabic text in these hadith are not mistaken?
Also what can I do to verify the text when I have such suspicions?

A quote attributed to Kitab al-Wagiz fi fiqh madhab al-imam al-Safi'i states that during Jihad:
> One must destroy their useless books.
However, when I searched online, most results were from anti-Islamic blogs and forums that merely repeat the quote without offering any context. I would like to read the original quote in its full context. Additionally, I want to understand its proper meaning as understood by devout Muslims. Does it mean that all books are to be destroyed, or is there a specific criterion that makes a book "useless"?

I intend to write a dark story, you know, a tragedy. Therefore there will be for sure bad guys in my story. There will be violence and bad language used. A lot of bad things will happen to the main character to make people sympathize with the character more.
I have heard that you can't write about things like faashiha/fahish (abusive language and gambling, etc).
My point is that if all I can write are good thing? That won't make anything interesting at all. Villains do like, gamble, kill and rape, etc.
I have moral for the story and for that I have to put the main character in a cruel and harsh setting. Is that allowed in islam? Nothing I write will say anything against Islamic rules - like saying gambling is right, etc.
What about the kind of clothes the character can wear?
I want to make my characters cool!
Specifically, female. I know that females should wear clothes that don't show too much skin. The thing is, I don't want my character to wear abaya in the story. It would be weird as my story isn't focusing on religion. It is focused on morals.

Al-Qadi an-Nu'man القاضي النعمان or Abu Hanifa al-Nu‘man ibn Muhammad ibn Mansur ibn Ahmad ibn Hayyun al-Tamimi (died 974 CE/ 363 AH) the Isma'ili jurist and official historian of the Fatimid dynasty. Had certainly written a lot of books and papers to defend the Fatmid dynasty and the Isma'ili and in general Shi'a jurisprudence and belief.
Arabic Wikipedia says he first was a follower of the Maliki school of fiqh. His name certainly may create confusion with that of abu Hanifa the known Sunni scholar and "founder" of the hanafi maddhab.
I wonder if he compiled a book entitled (or maybe referred to as) "Al-Fiqh al-Akbar" - a book with the same title is known to have been compiled by abu Hanifa-, if so what is the topic of this book?
Also what books did he write about Creed and Aqeedah?

1. Kitab al-Kafi الکافى of al-Kulayni محمد بن يعقوب بن إسحاق الكليني.
2. Man la yahduruhu al-Faqih من لا يحضره الفقيه of ibn Babawayh known as Sheikh Saduq ٱلشيخ ٱلصدوق.
3. Tahdeed al-Ahkam تهذيب الأحكام and
4. Al-Istibsaar fyma ikhtalafa min al-Akhbar الاستبصار فيما اختلف من الأخبار (both) of sheikh at-Tusi محمد بن الحسن الطوسي.
(The Arabic Wikipedia site -see here - arranged them in a different order where 2. was shifted at the end of the list of these four books, so I'm unclear if there's actually a ranking, but as far as I know al-Kafi has the highest reputation among these books).
Similar to the sunni's there are certainly other hadith collections which are also commonly known and used. (The following book titles are taken from this Arabic Wikipedia site, beside this Wikipedia is the major source of the provided information in this post) Among them are books of rather modern scholars such as:
- Wasaail a-Shi'a وسائل الشيعة of al-Hurr al-'Aamili الحر العاملي
(which seems a book about the fiqh of hadith: the author tried to conclude from a couple of narrations a fiqh ruling)
- Bihar al-Anwar بحار الأنوار of al-Majlisi محمد باقر المجلسي
(which is an imense collection of hadith and narration taht reachs about 110.000 narrations)
- Mustadrak al-Wasaa'il مستدرك الوسائل ومستنبط المسائل of al-Muhadith Noori
حسين النوري الطبرسي (this is basically as the title implies a compendium for the book of al-Hurr al-'Amili which includes about 23.000 more narrations)
- al-Waafy الوافي of al-Kashani الفيض الكاشاني
(which seems to be a collection of the four books, where the ahadith have been put in order based on fiqh topics and commented and explained by the author the book should contain about 50.000 hadith according wikipedia)
and books of early scholars such as:
- The Book of Sulaym ibn Qays كتاب سليم بن قيس الهلالي
(a loyal companion of at least four imams: 'Ali () and his sons al-Hassan () and al-Hussayn () and (his son) Ali Zayn al-'Abidyn () and Muhammad al-Baqir ())
which should be one of the earliest sources.
- Al-Amali الأمالي also known as al-Majalis المجالس of sheikh al-Mufyd
(is a book of dictations of 42 encouters between him and his students during Ramadan between 404 a.H. and 411 a.H. excluding the year 405 a.H. and 406 a.H.)
- Al-Khisaal الخصال
(a book of 1255 hadith which contains "numbers")
- 'Oyoun Akhbar Al-Ridha عیون اخبار الرضا
(a book containing narrations of and on the 8th shi'a imam 'Ali ibn Musa ar-Rida)
- Amali as-Saduq أمالي الصدوق (see al-Amali of al-Mufyd)
(a book which includes ahadith which were dictated by sheikh Saduq during 97 encouters with his students in al-Ray, Nishapur and Mashhad)
**Note** the last three books are all works of ibn Babawayh also known as sheikh Saduq.
I'd like to know to what extent these books are considered to contain authentic ahadith and narrations based on reliable shi'a hadith authorities.
P.s.: This question might be a bit too broad please help me improve it with constructive suggestions!

This hadith book currently bears the crown of being the "earliest extant hadith book" so its important to verify if what we have today it is actually authentically traced to Imam Ibn Munabbih. In general, I think verifying the authentic transmission of a document is done by two:
1.) Analysing all of the current manuscripts and their chains of transmission
2.) Analysing other documents that mention the document of interest. (i think Imam Ibn Abi Shaybah mentioned the sahifah hammam. I read that somewhere)
beyond that, I am not sure what else we can even do.
To that end, what are the current manuscripts of the Sahifah Hammam we have available to us today? (and where are they and mention their chains of transmissions etc please)

The tafsir mujahid ibn jabr has about five people in between the writer and Mujahid ibn jabr which disappointed me a lot. I thought it would be a book written directly by Mujahid before I started reading it, as the online Islamic library
**[[maktaba shamela](https://shamela.ws/book/12810/5#p1) ]**
attributes the book directly to Mujahid although its clear the book on the site is essentially a collection of athar going back to mujahid, athar with quite long chains too. I could not figure out who actually put pen to paper in the book listed by Maktaba Shamela and emailing them got me no response as usual.
Does anyone know who wrote the tafsir mujahid that is extant in today's world?

Ibn Khaldun, in the chapter “On the Rational Sciences and their Kinds” (al-’ulum al-'aqliyyah wa asnafuha) of his Muqaddimah, says: “At the time of the conquest of Iran many books of that country fell into the hands of the Arabs. Sa'd ibn Abi al-Waqqas wrote to ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab asking his permission to have them translated for Muslims.
'Umar wrote to him in reply that he should cast them into water, “for if what is written in those books is guidance, God has given us a better guide; and if that which is in those books is misleading, God has saved us from their evil.” Accordingly those books were cast into water or fire, and the sciences of the Iranians that were contained in them were destroyed and did not reach us.
Why did Caliph Omar burn books in Persia or is it a myth?
