Asalam O Alikum
By grace of Allah i have a good business of my own. Many years ago one good friend of my who now lives in a different city wanted to start a construction business but he didn’t had enough money to do business. I had agreement with him that i will become sleeping partner in his business and invest money in his business.
He gives me profit return according to our agreed terms. He also does work of good quality of customers but recently i came to know from some people that he takes construction contracts by giving commission. But there is no confirmation of this since we both are in different cities and i never interfered in business since I’m already busy in my own work.
Currently I’m confused is the profit which im getting Halal or not? And also have no idea how to talk about this with him because this can also break our friendship.

I've been wondering whether investing in financial institutions is considered haram. Many Muslims believe that since the primary income of these institutions (like Banks, Financial service Industries) is derived from interest, they make such investments haram. Primarily, the interests are derived from their lending products ie. Loans, Leasing. They argue that any association with interest (riba) is prohibited in Islam.
However, capital markets operate differently. The value of instruments in these markets is driven purely by demand and fundamentals; the higher the demand, the higher the price goes. In this scenario, the profit of a financial institution (FI) isn't directly involved neither is touched.
However, dividends are derived from the income that financial institutions generate (where interest is touched). Therefore, one could simply opt out of receiving dividends to avoid any haram income and proceed with investing in the Instruments/Security of FIs.
What are your thoughts on this? Is it possible to invest in financial institutions without engaging in haram activities? Looking forward to your insights!

Are the following types of investment in physical gold haram or halal? Or only one of the options is halal?
1. You invest a fixed amount per month for e.g. 1000. Let's say the gold price at that time is 100 per grams which means you got 10 gram gold investment.
2. You will keep on doing this for 12 months and these investments will keep adding up for e.g. 10 gram + 12 gram + 9.56 grams etc.
3. Let's say at the end of 12 months you invested 12000 and gold total becomes 40 grams. Now you have options:
**Option1**
You can get 40 grams of gold jewellery of your choice + you won't have to pay any jewellery making charges.
**Option 2**
You will get some cash bonus for e.g. 500 which you can add in your original investment which is 12000 so now total becomes 12500. You buy gold jewellery from that + only pay 50% discount on jewellery making charges.

I want to make a web app similar to Finviz.com, where the user can spend time and find information about the different companies and make personal decisions on further action thru screening.
But the concern is that a lot of the companies are dealing with riba or haraam industries. So will I be liable for the buying of such companies?
To put it in a different way is Google.com haraam because people use it for haraam things & its owner liable Islamically?
My web app won't show any personal opinion just fact and info available in open market, it doesn't even deal with buying and selling stocks or riba or any other haraam thing.
I'm confused, can I make a stock market web app as a Muslim?

There are companies, such as [this one](https://www.goldavenue.com/) , that offer a customer the ability to buy gold bullion, in the form of bars and coins, and store and insure these bars and coins in the company’s vaults for a monthly fee. The customer will not have physical access to these bars and coins while they are located in a vault.
Would it be halal to purchase gold bars and coins and store them in this company's secure vaults, for the sole purpose of protecting oneself against inflation, even though one would not have physical access to them?
The reason I ask is because I am wondering if not having physical possession of the gold would contradict the teaching of the following hadith:
> Ubida b. al-Simit (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Gold is to be paid for by gold, silver by silver, wheat by wheat, barley by barley, dates by dates, and salt by salt, like for like and equal for equal, payment being made hand to hand. If these classes differ, then sell as you wish if payment is made hand to hand.

Assalamu Alaykum, recently I received an offer from a company that develops a software where users can buy stocks from different companies. After buying stock their stock will be saved to their pension account and they can only use their stock when they retire. Of course, in that app we develop, there will be some halal stocks alongside haram ones.So in this case is it permissible for me to work there? My role in that company, will be developing and maintaining and app for stock buyers.

I originally asked this question which I am splitting up.
Investments and shares for retirement: Pay while contributing on the contribution amount or pay when retiring and we are able to withdraw the amount? This link suggests to pay immediately, and I have also seen rulings where you are to pay when you receive it. In either case, there is the added complexity that "real value" of the investment changes daily and until we actually "realize" the investment by selling and getting cash, it is all paper gain/loss. How to deal with that?

Amazon includes RSUs as a part of the total employee compensation. However, the company stock is non-sharia compliant http://testblog.islamicly.com/StockReport/shariah-stock-status-report-amazon-inc-usa-nasdaq/
My question is, as a software developer that is not directly working in any of the non-sharia compliant team, is it ok for me to receive the RSUs as a part of compensation?
What if, for example, my compensation includes $10,000 worth of stock with a vesting period, and when the vesting period is done, I immediately sell the stock and keep the $10,000, and if there's any bonus amount that's earned, I can give it to charity.
Amazon gives a larger part of compensation as stock for more senior roles, so an employee is really dependent on that as well..
Also, I found this on a forum https://forum.islamicfinanceguru.com/t/working-at-amazon/294/3

Assalam Alaykum my dear brothers and sisters in Islam. I was recently wondering what is the difference between business investment and gambling in Islam?
Since as far as I know investing in businesses is Halal but gambling isn't. Why is that? In investing you invest money and expect a profit which is based upon luck and slightly calculated figures, and gambling is also the same, isn't it?
Can anyone explain to me the difference between them from an Islamic perspective? and why one is halal and the other isn't?
JazakAllah Khair.

I invested in a cryptocurrency. The company offered a mining and stake pool program. In that program, they have a return on investment (ROI), so I took a part of it.
For example: buy a 100 coin and invest it into mining and stake pool program. The contract of program is one year. Their ROI for 100 coin is 0.4 coins, so I invest in 100 coins. I take a daily payment, so every day I get 0.4 coins until my contract is done.
So the question is: is it halal or haram or makrooh??

Is it Halal to donate money to company (who need money to fund a product/project/etc...) online via crowd-funding sites such as: Kickstarter or IndieGoGo ?
What if I gave money to a company (who need money to fund a product) in order to expect something back (i.e. the finished product), would that be considered Halal?
For those who are unaware of what crowd-funding sites are, they are a platform which allow large quantities of people to give money to a company to either help fund a project, such as this (with this example, if you pay a certain amount you will receive the finished product) or to fund aid programs, such as this .
I assume that we are allowed to give money to these companies ensuring that they are Halal?
Thanks!

I know short selling is haram because selling whats is not in my posession yet is not permissible, but I am not able to find if these boundary level conditions fall in permissible or not permissible side.
My question here has two parts:
1. If I **sell my holdings** (old stocks that I already have in my DEMAT account) and **buy the same quantity of the same company again on the same day**, will it be considered as halal? Although I am making a different transaction here, it would be an equivalent of exiting that position on the same day before my sell-transaction was completed with delivery.
2. If the answer to question 1 is positive, will it be permissible if I do the same, multiple times in a single day with the same stock?

**UPDATE 1:**
So those sharia compliant CFD's, how are they different interms of gambling from the non sharia complient CFD's? As even the non sharia complient CFD's have no interest if you don't hold your contract overnight. I don't understand how those sharia complient CFD's reduce the gambling element of CFD's?
**ORIGINAL QUESTION:**
Anyone know of any rulings about Contract for Difference (CFD) trading according to Islam? Is it considered haraam or halaal?
I'm interested in the sunni > hanafi > deobandi view if possible please. If that's not possible, than any sunni view is fine.
Here is a intro video if you don't know what CFD trading is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-s4IY98InI
Please note, that interest is only charged if you hold the trade overnight, i.e. no interest if you don't hold overnight.
