Assalamu aleikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
My friend and I are planning to invest in cryptocurrency leveraged tokens, specifically BTC, ETH, and Solana, using a DeFi platform called TLX. You can find more information on their website . However, we are uncertain whether this investment is halal or haram.
We have conducted thorough research on the leveraged tokens available on the TLX platform through various sources, including official documentation, ChatGPT, and Islamic finance forums. Our findings suggest that these tokens do not involve riba (compounding interest), unlike those offered by other DeFi platforms such as Toros . Toros creates leverage by borrowing additional assets, resulting in leverage token owners paying interest on the borrowed amount, which is haram. We are avoiding the Toros platform for this reason.
On the other hand, TLX leveraged tokens derive their leverage through synthetic futures from the Synthetix platform, rather than through borrowing or lending (as it is the case with Toros). Synthetic futures mimic the behavior of traditional futures without necessitating ownership of the underlying asset. They are constructed using financial instruments like options or swaps to replicate the price movements and payoff structures of conventional futures contracts.
Unlike traditional futures that require funding fees to align with the spot market, synthetic futures eliminate this need due to their specific expiration dates and settlement terms. This distinction is crucial, as it addresses any potential concerns about the permissibility of funding fees under Islamic law.
Regarding the fee structure of the TLX platform:
- Streaming Fee: The 2% streaming fee covers the costs related to maintaining the leveraged token. Since it is not tied to riba, it appears permissible.
- Rebalancing Fee: Currently set to zero, this fee may be introduced to cover actual rebalancing costs in the future. As it is designed to cover costs rather than generate profit through interest, it seems permissible.
- Redemption Fee: This fee compensates for the service of redeeming the leveraged token, making it a service-based fee rather than interest, and thus permissible.
As far as we know, generally, service-based fees are acceptable in Islamic finance if they are transparent and justified by the provided services. Based on our research, the fees associated with TLX leveraged tokens are clearly defined and service-oriented. There is no compounding or standard interest, and no requirement for staking assets, indicating no involvement with interest-based profit generation.
In summary, the fee structure appears well-aligned with Shariah law. Fahim and I believe this is pointing in a good direction, though we seek your expert opinion to conclude our findings.
**With the provided information, do you consider the leveraged tokens on TLX to be permissible under Islamic principles?**
Thank you for your time and guidance.

I’ve recently started working at a trading company as a software engineer, there business model is as follows:
Their main source of profit is trading fees.
But, they give their customers interest on their money, basically the company transfer all users money to the central bank, they gain interest on that money, then they give the interest to end customers.
Is working for such company Haram or Halal?
My actual work has nothing to do with interst.

I have two questions.
1- I have deposited a certain amount with a developer in a European country to get the immigration as per the laws of that European country. The rule is that the money will stay with the developer for a period of 5-6 years during which he will use that money to develop some real estate. After a period of 6 years, if the immigration department of that country award me immigration based on the amount of investment I have made and their other criteria/ rules then I will get my deposited money back after 6 years.
My question is that do I have to pay Zakat on this money till the time its with the developer and not in my possession?
2- Second question is related to forex/ commodity trading. If the broker offers me a leverage which has no swap or interest charges then can I use leverage to do commodity or forex trading?

Binance clearly mentioned in their docs that they charge a funding fee on each future trade which consists of a fixed interest rate of 0.03% plus premium. So is this interest rate the interest which is forbidden in Islam? or is it the trading fee of Binance?

As-salamu alaykum,
Do you need to pay zakah every year on a plot of land if the intention at the time of purchase was to resell, maybe 10 or more years, in the future ?
On askimam.org they say that you don't need to pay zakah every year if the intention is to resell in the future: http://www.askimam.org/public/question_detail/26513
However other sources say that you do need to pay every year: http://seekersguidance.org/ans-blog/2012/03/04/zakat-on-land-and-determining-market-value/
Could someone please clarify exactly what the Hanafi position is. Does buying land with the intention to resell a long time in the future make it stock in trade ?

Salam Aleikom,
Islam has put two rules when exchanging currency, which one of them is that it should be hand to hand transaction. These days people are using internet and mobile applications, this will raise two questions:
1- Are such type of transactions are considered as hand to hand? Where the money is being exchanged in your account and not yet withdrawn and when you do, you'll receive your money based on updated currency rates. Is this Hand to Hand?!
2- Isn't participating in such applications and r=earning or losing in matter of seconds based on flow of market a type of gambling?! Since one doesn't know how prices flows.

I've referred to a lot of blogs, articles and documentation about shariah compliance in stock market investments but have failed to find **the limits about the minimum duration to hold on a stock** before you can sell it.
There is a perspective (like at islamweb.com) where people think of **intraday trading as haram because you have not yet received the delivery of the stocks yet**, so selling without delivery would make it haram.
I've also read that trading is altogether haram and investments are halal whereas another article which states conditions under which intraday trading can be halal .
There are many perspectives around the same with their own valid points. I prefer to be safe so I chose to restrict myself to investing rather than trading. The main unanswered question here is **what is the difference between the two in the view of Islam... is selling the stock as soon as I get the delivery of it (around 2 days) considered as an investment or is there a larger minimum duration that I am supposed to hold it for**?

Binary multilevel marketing (MLM) is where the MLM company deals with a number of useful products (clothes, books , health related products) including insurance policy. To enroll in it, one has to purchase some products only one time.
Commission paying system is: Every one will get a fixed amount if he enrolls two new members (*left and right to him* (its a term used)) and the amount will increase with the number of newly joining members in left hand and right hand side of the man. It may be direct joining of new people by him or by people in his down-line, without affecting the down-line's commission. To get commission everybody has to maintain a 1:1 ratio. When there will be a huge team then there is a maximum pay out limit that is fixed.

lately I discovered the Binary Option system, with a little bit of research I found companies who offer an Islamic Account to trade.
However when I searched on the internet to find if this kind of trades is Halal or Haram, I found myself stuck between two opinions, some say that it is halal if you avoid trading in currencies, you trade just in commodities (gold, silver, oil), stocks (Facebook, Amazon, Apple) and indices, and some say that it is Haram.
The problem is that no one is talking about the Islamic account itself, whether it makes any difference or not.
Some sites that offer an Islamic account:
- 24bulls
- 24option
- bigoption
Could anyone please help me with this?

Assalamu Alaikkum Warahmathullahi Wabarakath,
I'm a devoted muslim. After several studies i found out a solid way to earn money through online. Before getting into action, i want to know whether it is halal or haram. It is about binary trading. I browsed through the internet to find out if it is prohibited in Islam or not. Some argued it is haram and some argued if it is interest free/ swap free it is halal.
In my case, i am intended to trade via a platform called IQ options. Specialty on this platform is, at the beginning when you create an account, they Ask whether you are a muslim or not. And they facilitate interest free accounts to muslims. If i'm a muslim i can choose an interest free plan.
I tried to contact some ulamas; unfortunately most of them didn't have any idea on this field. So i would be really thankful if you could give me the shariah rule in this particular problem.

I want to know about binary option trading.
In this trading a person predicts that if the currency goes up in the next 1 minute to 1 day, then one will buy and if one's prediction is correct one gets a percentage of profit on one's investment and vice versa in selling.
The main thing is that there is a time for our prediction. For example, one might buy a currency in one rate predicting it goes up in the next 10 or 30 minutes, and if the market is above the purchased line within 10 to 30 minutes then one would win and get a profit.
Is this halal in Islam?

I would like to know if trading with Bitcoin and altcoin to make profit is halal? I've searched for the subject but I only found different opinions for currency trading.
I think that crypto-currency is little bit different, it's not stored in banks, I can keep it in my machine, and trading purposes I had to store my coins in a website then for every exchange there's some fees, these fees differ from one trading platform to another. The fees may be composed of:
- Fees for exchange which are imposed by the currency.
- Fees for the website to keep the trading platform running.
This post about bitcoin in islam is quite interesting if you want to read more about the subject[1]
