Who added the phrase "Salah is better than sleep" to the Fajar azan?
I am a bit confused. 1) someone mentioned that these phrases *salah is better then sleep* were added by umar ibn khattab after Prophet PBUH time and somewhere else it is mentioned with references that hazrat Bilal R.A was adviced by Prophet PBUH to add these phrases only in fajar azaan and not in al...
I am a bit confused. 1) someone mentioned that these phrases *salah is better then sleep* were added by umar ibn khattab after Prophet PBUH time and somewhere else it is mentioned with references that hazrat Bilal R.A was adviced by Prophet PBUH to add these phrases only in fajar azaan and not in all the azans like he used too. So I want to know 1) if Prophet PBUH was alive and well when these phrases were added in Azan 2) and that were these phrases added by Prophet SAW himself due to Hazrat Umar bin Khattab incident.?? >> (referening to the incident I read where someone said these phrases were added by Umar bin Khattab after Prophet PBUH time when: once when he R.A himself slept through fajar azan and azan reciter came to wake him up and said these phrases and was then asked to add these in every fajar azan for the muslims.) 3) or were these phrases asked to be added by Umar Bin Khattab (in relation to above mentioned incident) after Prophet SAW's time.??

Twilight types For those of you who don't know what it is, consider going through this page or this is good too. The main concern is with morning fajr/Dawn prayer. People say the white thread - black thread, honestly, those terms don't pretty much get into my head. So, I just understood them as simply the turn over from dark to light i.e. the moment you feel there is a change. Is my understanding right? But, practically, in this modern world I can't stand and exactly measure when is there gonna be a change. I would simply rely on the internet and check when is that twilight happening in my place. Here is my concerned page . The obvious concern is because I want to determine the exact time of ending my Suhr. I could safely pray my Fajr prayer after the nautical twilight anyways. If you've gone through the page, there is a lot of difference between the nautical and Astro twilights in morning. So, wanted the exact time until when I can enjoy my Suhr - When does Fajr start / Sahr end? Is it Astro, Nautical or Civil twilight? Also, a related question, - When does Isha start / Maghrib end? Is it Astro, Nautical or Civil twilight? (I guess it is Nautical here, but want a confirmation)

Assalamu'Alaikum Fellow Community members, This is my very first question to the community and it's a simple one. Is there a hadith or quranic verse which tells how long one has to wait after sunrise before offering the Fajr prayer? Obviously this is when one has missed the fajr time and woken up right after sunrise time has past. Answers with authentic references will be much appreciated.

As more and more studies establish the importance of sleep, and specially of continuous sleep, I am wondering how does praying fajr impact sleep. I recently started praying fajr, and I am finding that due to split sleep, I am not as refreshed as I used to be when I used to sleep continuously. I live in North America where time duration between Isha and Fajr is only 3.5 hours during summer months. Therefore, sleeping early is not an option. I dont want to miss fajr either. If someone has found the right balance of sleep and prayer, then I would love to know. Thanks!!

I hope this question is relevant enough for this section of StackExchange, as it's more towards history rather than Islam itself. Nowadays, people depend on alarm clocks or the loud sound of athan coming in from the window (in which case, the muathin probably also woke up from an alarm clock) in order to wake up for fajr, in which the time may shift between 4am and 6am (in my country at least). If someone were to ask me to wake up at those times without an alarm clock, I would find it completely impossible. My question is, in the past, before the invention of electricity and alarm clocks, how did Muslims wake up reliably for fajr?

If it is, if dawn is later than it is written, why does it say that it is that early and people can't eat anymore from that early time?

When should one stop eating and drinking? And what is the ruling on one who has the vessel in his hand when hearing the adhaan?
1. When exactly must one stop eating and drinking if one is going to fast? 2. Is it the adhaan of Fajr when the muezzin says Allaahu akbar, or what is the exact time? 3. What should I do if the cup is at my mouth and I am drinking and the call to prayer begins?

When I did sajda (prostration), I think there was too much saliva in my mouth or something so what I said sounded like "subhanarabial'aya" instead of "subhanarabial'ala." It was only one time though. Do you know if my prayer is acceptable? Or have I changed the meaning of the word?
