## Question ##
Is it Permissible to Play musical instruments on Eid?
## Research Effort ##
The playing of Musical instruments in general, appears (to me) to be forbidden:
> Narrated Abu 'Amir or Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari: that he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, "From among my followers
there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful.
And there will be some people who will stay near the side of a mountain and in the evening their shepherd will come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say to him, 'Return to us tomorrow.' Allah will destroy them during the night and will let the mountain fall on them, and He will transform the rest of them into monkeys and pigs and they will remain so till the Day of Resurrection." **[ [bukhari](https://sunnah.com/bukhari:5590) ]**
----------
However in my interpretation of this next Hadith, the messenger permitted some girls to sing a song of the Ansar as an exception, because its Eid:
> Narrated Aisha: That once Abu Bakr came to her on the day of Id-ul-Fitr or Id ul Adha while the Prophet (ﷺ) was with her and there were two girl singers with her, singing songs of the Ansar about the day of Buath. Abu Bakr said twice. "Musical instrument of Satan!" But the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Leave them Abu Bakr, for every nation has an Id and this day is our Id." **[ [Bukhari](https://sunnah.com/bukhari:3931)]**
But Abu Bakr views the singing of these girls as a:
> "Musical instrument of Satan!"
So this formed the question for me, if Singing ( a song of the ansar about the day of buath) is allowed on Eid and Abu Bakr views that Singing as a kind of (satanic) Musical Instrument; (and the messenger did not correct him in that); then
**Is it Permissible to Play musical instruments on Eid?**

Quran says: Alcohol has some positive things but the negative things outweigh the positive things. In a similar fashion. Will they be rewarded for the positive aspects of their sin? Singing is a major sin that has all those negative effects like increasing hypocrisy. But the singer also produces epic amount of pleasure, entertainment and happiness to millions of people through his voice. My question is: Will he be rewarded like the reward of doing a good deed for the fact that he is entertaining and making happy millions of people through his voice? What about the porn actor?

Are 'vocals only' nasheeds of Maher Zain permissible to listen to?

There are a number of nasheeds by **[Maher Zain](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maher_Zain)** which are labelled as "Vocals only - No Music", and what I want to know is whether these nasheeds would fall under the prohibition in this fatwa (i.e. do any of the recorded vocals count as "effects which sound like musical instruments"?).
I am not interested in personal opinions and especially not in arguing about the validity of the fatwa itself; I expect answers to be backed by evidences, and these evidences must be compatible with the Salafi methodology used by IslamQA (the source of the fatwa itself).

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (p.b.u.h) came to my house while two girls were singing beside me the songs of Buath (a story about the war between the two tribes of the Ansar, the Khazraj and the Aus, before Islam). The Prophet (p.b.u.h) lay down and turned his face to the other side. Then Abu Bakr came and spoke to me harshly saying, "Musical instruments of Satan near the Prophet (p.b.u.h) ?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (p.b.u.h) turned his face towards him and said, "Leave them." When Abu Bakr became inattentive, I signaled to those girls to go out and they left. It was the day of `Id, and the Black people were playing with shields and spears; so either I requested the Prophet (p.b.u.h) or he asked me whether I would like to see the display. I replied in the affirmative. Then the Prophet (p.b.u.h) made me stand behind him and my cheek was touching his cheek and he was saying, "Carry on! O Bani Arfida," till I got tired. The Prophet (p.b.u.h) asked me, "Are you satisfied (Is that sufficient for you)?" I replied in the affirmative and he told me to leave.

Does this mean that women can sing or not?
Also, were the girls mentioned here mature or not?

I have a question. Can you sing an english song from the internet without bad words and without anyone in the room with no instruments? I need a very straight forward answer, my sect. is Salafi. I read you can't sing because it takes you out of reality and the remembrance of Allah, but I want to sing to help me feel better and if it's about the remembrance, wouldn't studying be bad? Since you don't necessarily remember Allah 24/7 unless you want to pray. But is it bad if there is no bad words, no audience, or no instruments?

I know that according to most sources, singing is haram. Yet, I cannot see **why** it is so.
It is claimed in several sources that singing is "idle talk", that it can "mislead you from the path of Allah", that it adds "hypocrisy to the heart" .... yet, all of these arguments are not arguments, they are baseless claims and accusations.
*How* exactly is it "idle talk"? Surely there can be a lot of purpose behind ones singing.
*How* exactly does it mislead you from the path of Allah? Surely one could be singing about good things that are in accordance with the preachings of Allah and Muhammed?
*How* exactly does it add hypocrisy to the heart? This last one especially makes no sense to me.
There are many things forbidden in Islam and many of them are based on strong arguments - yet this one about singing? I don't see why it is forbidden, and, honestly, I don't think it **is** forbidden, I think this is an example of fundamentalism gone wrong.
