My question is how did the devil come to know that a Muslim needs to recite ayatul kursi for protection? Is this report similar to one where ruqyah was recited for scorpion bite?

To what extent is it true that everyone is born upon fitrah?

I often recall my memory from the past when I was first recognised God. When I was a child and misbehaving and my mother said "Remember God is watching you" and reply "Who's he(God)"?. That memory casts me doubts regarding whether it's true that everyone is born with instinct to believe in God. I often think that is it possible that it's not true for everyone and often think that could it be the case that some believe in God not because it was in their instinct but that is what they were told since their childhood?

Now I don't wish to use a razor but just a trim - looking in a mirror underneath and small scissors is very hard. If you are unmarried or the wife doesn't want to assist what can you do? Only a doctor if he is examining that area may see it without it being haraam. What other options are available? I can't think of any more.

Muslim men are told to leave the beard and trim the moustache. There is some discussion whether you can trim more than a fistful of the beard. Besides that can you trim the hairs if they are sticking out or growing unequally for example? Or are you just supposed to leave and keep as "tidy" as possible by combing and using beard oil to press the hair together?
Secondly can you remove the hair on the neck? Does this constitute the beard area?

Islamic notions of human nature: reconciling our 'hanif fitrah' and 'the soul inclining towards evil'
The Qur'an in ar-Ruum:30-31 says
translated as
>Set your face to religion **as a hanif**, in the primordial nature from God upon which he originated mankind...(30). **turning unto Him**...(31).
This is consistent with other descriptions of Fitrah elsewhere in the Qur'an that refers to this natural tendency to lean towards believing in the one God .
On the other hand, the Qur'an in Yusuf:53 says
> وَمَآ أُبَرِّئُ نَفۡسِىٓۚ **إِنَّ ٱلنَّفۡسَ لَأَمَّارَةُۢ بِٱلسُّوٓءِ** إِلَّا مَا رَحِمَ رَبِّىٓۚ إِنَّ رَبِّى غَفُورٌ۬ رَّحِيمٌ۬ (٥٣)
translated as
>But I absolve not my own soul. Surely **the soul commands to evil**...(53).
My question is how are we to understand this seeming difference in the message of 30:30 vs 12:53? In the former, the fitrah, the primordial nature of man, is said to lean towards the one God (and so all that is against ألسوء/evil), and the latter says that the human soul tends to call/urge towards evil.
Can there ever be a soul that urges towards evil, who, at the same time has, a primordial nature to lean towards tawhid, or vice versa?
Please could you provide evidences based on the Qur'an and hadeeth that can help explain this seeming discrepancy?
I can think of several approaches to this: that one's nature or soul is indeed good, but that it nevertheless urges towards evil (of course, taking into account the remainder of 12:53:
>Save whom my Lord may show mercy...)
; that the soul and the human nature (my shortening of the concept of 'the primordial nature, from God, upon which he originated mankind') are not entirely or necessarily the same thing; and others. But I am not familiar with the scholarly thoughts on this and would be grateful for any guidance.
Thank you and جزاك الله خيرا كثيرا.

Does homosexuality go against the fitra according to the Qur'an and Sunnah?

Islam Q&A write:
> They (gays and lesbians) both go against the natural disposition (fitrah) which Allaah has created in mankind – and also in animals – whereby the male is inclined towards the female, and vice versa.
A similar claim is made by Muslim Matters , and it can be found in online forums by searching.
**Question**: Does homosexuality go against the fitra according to the Qur'an and Sunnah?
While the Islam Q&A fatwa quotes the Qur'an and Sunnah, there isn't (or, perhaps more accurately, I didn't recognize) an explicit reference which shows that homosexuality go against fitra.

Assalaamualaikum , we have seen some hadiths on the importance of shaving pubic hair , but what is the right way of doing it? Is it ok if it is cut short with scissors?
**Narrated By Abu Huraira : I heard the Prophet saying. "Five practices are characteristics of the Fitra: circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, cutting the moustaches short, clipping the nails, and depilating the hair of the armpits."
Sahih al-Bukhari, The Book of Dress, Hadith Number:5952**
I've asked some friends though , and they say use blade. But blades seem a bit harsh . Similarly there is a ruling of shaving it off within 40 days. So I wanted to know the truth behind this "40 day" term . Please answer with a hadith.
So my question is , would scissors be alright to cut short with, and is there a 40 day threshold after which all good deeds are nulled?

The hadith below found in [Sahih Muslim #258](http://sunnah.com/muslim/2/66) suggests one should do it no longer than every 40 days.
> عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ قَالَ أَنَسٌ وُقِّتَ لَنَا فِي قَصِّ الشَّارِبِ وَتَقْلِيمِ الأَظْفَارِ وَنَتْفِ الإِبْطِ وَحَلْقِ الْعَانَةِ أَنْ لاَ نَتْرُكَ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً .

> Anas reported: A time limit has been prescribed for us for clipping the moustache, cutting the nails, plucking hair under the armpits, shaving the pubes, that it **should not be neglected far more than forty nights.**
In order to trim one's moustache, he must first have a moustache. However, how thick does the moustache have to be in order to trim it?
A male starts growing a moustache during puberty so if one is growing their moustache at this age, it would not be that thick and they could barely trim it.
They wouldn't have a full moustache yet and would have to wait a couple of years until it has grown thick and this therefore means they won't be trimming their moustache every 40 days because they are still growing it. This henceforth raises the question:
**When is it required for a man to start trimming his moustache?**

The term "fitrah" seems to have some connotations of "natural" and is sometimes rendered as ["innate nature"](https://islam.stackexchange.com/a/35/17702) . It crops up in different contexts, sometimes as including a natural inclination to the doctrines of Islam (see first link), [circumcision](https://islamqa.info/en/2887) , matters of [hygiene and grooming](http://www.islamweb.net/emainpage/index.php?page=showfatwa&Option=FatwaId&Id=86084) . Wikipedia has a very small [article](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitra) on it that talks about it in spiritual terms. The question whether certain acts are against fitrah has been asked on here (in particular, [homosexuality](https://islam.stackexchange.com/questions/38974/does-homosexuality-go-against-the-fitra-according-to-the-quran-and-sunnah)) , and [islamQA](https://islamqa.info/en/10050) for example says that's the case.
That is quite a number of concepts grouped together into fitrah, so that leaves me with quite a diffuse understanding of the term. So my question is, what exactly is fitrah?

Is it ever obligatory on a muslim man or woman to change any part of his/her body ? (other than trimming the nails, moustache or pubic hair)
For example, if a person has a natural hair which resembles one of the styles that the kuffar have, does he/she **have** to change the hairstyle or he/she can keep it because they have this style naturally? (One of my cousins actually had a natural mohawk (almost))
Another example, say a non-Muslim women do a specific kind of change to their bodies to excessively beautify themselves. If a Muslim girl is born with that kind of beauty (the kind which the kuffar try to mimic), does she have to change that beauty because that resembles the kuffar?
