Why does the Catholic Church teach that Noah's ark was "complete in one cubit"?
According to Pope Boniface VIII's bull *[Unam sanctam][1]* (1302), > Indeed, at the time of the flood there was one ark of Noah, prefiguring the one Church, **made complete in one cubit** [*Una nempe fuit diluvii tempore arca Noe, unam Ecclesiam praefigurans, quae **in uno cubito consummata***] (Den...

What does it mean that the arc was "made complete in one cubit"?

I’m doing some research if you could help. Question 1 How Is living a long life (900+ years) like some of Seth’s descendants not a direct sign of divinity. I’m not super religious but the grouping I’ve been working with lately helped me come to this understanding “things that shouldn’t have happened aren’t deeply explained and aren’t harmful/negative I tend to take as a sign or divinity.” Just bc there’s already so much unknown when it comes to religion an unnatural GOOD thing I just take as divinity amongst earth. That leads me to my next question multiple descendants of Seth lived to be 900+ That’s a direct sign of divinity (to me and my grouping) so if anyone has any insight any scripture you could point me too of what lifestyle these people (descendants of Seth ppl who have lived 900+) Kept any scripture where their character is mentioned that allotted them SUCH a long life. & ultimately what could’ve happened to tarnish that family to the point Noah was the only pure blood and no one lives to be 900 anymore. I’m very open minded opinions welcomed this is less about religion as a whole more about living to be 900 how that was possible and could be possible again The Bible is interpreted a lot of ways so any feedback is welcomed
Also I did see something about the calendar being different and some don’t believe they were actually that old.. saying it’s an exaggeration in writing

How do those who hold to a literal interpretation of the flood account respond to the criticism that Noah building the ark would be unfeasible?
In Longman and Walton's book *The Lost World of the Flood* (2018) they argue that the account of Noah's flood in the book of Genesis, although based on an historical event, employs rhetorical devices such as **hyperbole**. In Longman and Walton's book *The Lost World of the Flood* (2018) they argue that the account of Noah's flood in the book of Genesis, although based on an historical event, employs rhetorical devices such as **hyperbole**. One example of this is the size of the ark. In the Genesis account, the size of the ark is put at 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high (estimates vary, but that is the approximate size).
As the authors say (p. 39),
> "Let's remember that the ark as described in the Bible, if taken as
> precise measurements of an actual boat, **is larger than any wooden boat
> built not just in antiquity but at any time, including today**. [...]
> the earliest vessels, rarely more than ten feet in length [...]
> Egyptian art [...] depicts ships that may be as long as 170 feet [...]
> Even once we move into Roman times [...] the most famous large vessel
> was the Isis [...] Remarkably, it was 180 feet by 45 feet by 44 feet -
> less than a quarter the size of the ark.
>
> Moving to more recent times [...] The USS Dunderberg is often listed
> at the longest at 377 feet, but 50 feet of the length is a ram, so to
> compare to the ark we should list it at 327. The Wyoming [...] is
> listed at 449 feet, but this includes the jib-boom; actually it is 329
> feet. These modern long wooden boats are also built with iron bolts
> and steel supports, something not available to Noah."
According to Longman and Walton, unlike a contemporary reader who is used to boats the size of the ark or bigger (such as cargo ships or cruise-liners - indeed, this is small compared to the largest ships nowadays - the largest cruise ship is 1,200 feet long and 210 feet wide), an ancient reader would have immediately recognized this as an unprecedentedly huge ship which would have been virtually impossible for Noah and his family to build (or perhaps even the King's navy).
Hence, they argue, it is plausible to hold an ancient reader would have readily seen this as 'obvious' hyberbole, similar to a person nowadays saying "this luggage weighs 10,000 pounds" - any listener nowadays would know that latter phrase is meant as hyperbole for effect.
What are the main responses to this type of argument? There are two main aspects here. First, do those who hold the flood story is to be understood literally hold this actually would be a practical achievement by Noah and his family, and if so how? Second, are there any common responses to the argument it is reasonable to hold this would have been seen by ancient listeners as hyperbole, who would never have seen boats of this size?

What does the story of Noah's Ark foreshadow in the New Testament?
I have seen Noah's Ark listed one of the "types" in Scripture -- something that occurred, but that also foreshadowed something else that would come later. What exactly, then, does the story of Noah's Ark foreshadow?

*"The animals went in two-by-two, hurrah, hurrah!"* - we're taught this nursery rhyme from a young age, and go throughout life believing that one male, and one female of each species was present on the Ark in order to re-populate the world after the flood.

I find the verses above somewhat confusing with regards to how many of each species would have been present on the Ark. How do people who take the Ark narrative literally interpret this?

According to Mormon Doctrine, Adam and Eve lived in Adam-ondi-Ahman . Which was revealed to Joseph Smith to be located in Missouri (see D&C 116:1 ).
This would mean that unless Adam's posterity went on some epic intercontinental journey between Adam and Noah's time, that Noah likely built the ark not too far from Missouri, and sailed it from America all the way to the Eastern Continent.
Do Mormons believe the ark was built on the American continent? And that everyone who lived before Noah dwelt in America?

There are more than 1 million different species of animals in existence (that we know of), many of them are quite large or dangerous. How can all of those animals even fit into the ark, together with the vast amounts of food that would be needed?

Firstly, I'm sorry if it's not the right place to ask this kind of question. I didn't know where else I could ask about it.
I'm interested in Simon de Myle's painting of the ark. In the middle of the painting, on the right, one may see a chimera/dragon devouring a man.
I was wondering whether the Bible says anything about chimeras. And if so, how the one of de Myle's painting can be explained. Why a dragon and why devouring a man?
Was it only an artistic vision?

> 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress[c] wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high.[d] 16 Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit[e] high all around.[f] Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks.
Based on the specs, Noah's ark is around 2/3 of the size of Titanic.
How can he possibly fit all the animals (assuming land and air) including all their sub species in that ark? Assuming around 2 Million different species exist (This is supposedly the lowest estimate). Considering also their food supply and water supply for almost a month. How is this possible? Is there any divine intervention(God's magic) on how all of these become plausible? And if there is, then why bother making a boat with a specification and go all the trouble doing all of the gathering and food allocation if God could had simply snap his fingers and all is in order again, is it because of God's limited powers that he needs Noah's help? But hes was able to build everything in the universe from scratch in 7 days.
Is there any references that explains if he did intervene or like shrink the animals inside the ark? Or was the ark like a trick boat which has almost unlimited space inside? Please provide biblical reference to this.
Thanks!
