Recently I've been searching for a house online, of course I do not want to get involved in Riba Astagfir-Allah, so I started subscribing to all these "sale in execution" property auction websites, so I can see whether I could get some good deals.
Anyways, I came across this one car they said you can buy it on "rent to buy".
So I looked up "rent to buy" and according to this explanation on Forbes.com you pay a deposit / down payment on the property (car / home/etc) and the rent you pay each month includes rent plus a downpayment on the innitial price of the house, and the price does not fluctuate with the interest rate.
Is it Halal to be involved in such a transaction? Please give a reason for your answer, Shukran.

What does Islam say about renting rooms at a higher price than the owner?

We're a group of students, studying at a prestigious University, we had to shift from city campus to its permanent campus due to some new Govt. policies. Currently we're living in a rural area and have been facing various problems, but the main issue abou which I am going to request you to clarify me is that, over here two students have made such an accommodation crisis that if you need a room for living you have to take the room from them with double and sometimes tripled rent price than if you were able to take it directly from the owner of the building. For example, a room would cost 1500 bucks per month if you take it from the owner, but now you have to spend 4000 bucks (more or less) for that room monthly only because of those two students, as they have already taken those room and left us with no choice but to take rooms with that high price from them. And due to lack of adequate apartments, we have no alternatives to stay in other places or buildings as they have taken all of them and making a lot of money out of it. And we are the victims of their business.
Now my question is, what they are doing, according to the rulings of islam, is it halal or haram business?

Where I say property, I mean, something physical which has value. If the islamic definition of rent-able property is different, please let me know.
If I have property in the form of a house, I understand that I can rent this house out and get monthly payments in the form of USD until the house is returned to me, where the rental period is defined in a contract. As far as I have read, this is apparently halaal.
My question is, if I have property in the form of gold, can I rent that gold out and get monthly payments in the form of USD until the gold is returned to me? Where the rental period is also defined in a contract.

As stated in the title the question is about the difference between accepting riba and accepting rent. according to my understanding riba is when you give loan of some commodity to a person and during payback you accept some extra amount for providing the service. It seems the act of giving rent is also essentially the same. More clearly practicing riba is like renting the particular commodity. Please someone clarify me about this.

Is it permissible in Islam to lease a car?
Basically, I pay $200-$300 per month for a new or a good used car for three years. At the end of the term, I return the car to the owner. It is kind of a long-term rent.
As you know, maintaining a car is expensive in North America, and I don't have the cash to buy a new one. So renting one without thinking about the maintenance can be an interesting option.

How is rent different from interest?
Say I have $100,000 cash and a house worth $100,000. I loan Sam the $100,000 cash for 10% of 100,000 ($1000) interest each month. Also, I rent out my house to Kate for $1000 rent per month. If Sam fails to pay me the monthly amount, the amount he owes me will increase the next month. Similarly, if K...
Similarly, if Kate fails to pay me the monthly amount, the amount she owes me will increase the next month.
As the value of my house increases, I can increase the rent (by a certain % depending on the rent rates in the area). I can also increase the % of interest on my loan to Sam.
If both of them consistently fail to pay the monthly amount, I have the right to take my house back from Kate and my cash from Sam.
Say Sam lost the money and he is unable to payback immediately, then he is entitled to a bigger penalty. Also, Kate burnt down my house, and cannot return my house right away, then she is entitled to a bigger penalty as well.
How is rent different from interest? I do not understand that why Rent is halal and interest is not when they seem to be the same ideas.
