Are Lutherans comfortable with worshipping a consecrated host or do they consider it to be idolatry?

Lutherans believe in a real, physical presence of Christ in the Eucharist, similar to Catholics. However they also believe that the bread and wine remain as bread and wine even after consecration. Does this belief that the bread is still bread (despite also being God) prevent Lutherans from engaging in eucharistic adoration/worship out of fear of idolatry? If not, can you please provide some examples of situations in which Lutherans engage in such adoration? Does it happen during the liturgy? Does it happen outside the liturgy?

During Eucharistic Adoration in Catholic churches, the consecrated host is kept in a [monstrance](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monstrance) on the altar for the faithful to venerate. The design of the monstrance is uniform across the world in that the round enclosure is surrounded 360 degree by sharp projections that look like flames. Or, do they represent the Crown of Thorns, or the rays of divine light? The Image of the [Sacred Heart of Jesus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacred_Heart) also has similar projections. My question is: **Where did the Monstrance of the Catholic churches get its design from?**

Eucharistic adoration is a practice in Catholicism in which the Eucharist, being bread that has literally turned into the body of Christ, is publicly displayed. Commonly, it is placed in a monstrance and the faithful sit in silence and pray or otherwise reflect on the fact that they are in the presence of Christ's body. It is not consumed as it would be during Communion, and the faithful simply look at it. What is the earliest recorded instance of this practice? To be clear, I'm not talking about simply saving the Eucharist for the sick or a later time, but rather to have it displayed for adoration without consuming it.

I've heard it said that Pope St. John Paul II wrote in front of the blessed sacrament. Is this true?
I occasionally get the dirty look from people in the adoration chapel, when writing, and was wondering if it's true that Pope St. John Paul II wrote in the adoration chapel.

While giving a presentation on the Blessed Sacrament, I was informed that Eucharistic Adoration does not fulfill our requirement to do penance on Fridays during the year. After a brief disagreement with the objection to my insistence that it did fulfill the requirement. I humbled myself and let the person objection stand. Determined to find the answer, I can find no indication that Eucharistic Adoration cannot be a form of Penance satisfying the Catholics obligation to unite themselves to Christ Passion. The Penance that a Catholic should perform on Fridays can come in many forms, including Prayer, Attending mass and acts of Piety. It is my opinion that Eucharistic adoration is an act fo Piety. I am looking for a source that indicates that Eucharistic Adoration satisfies the Friday obligation to do Penance. Knowing full well that the preferred method is fasting, especially with abstinence from Meat. This question I believe would be for Catholics under the authority of Catholic Bishops, and may not be uniform outside the USA.

Can or should a consecrated Host be adored by way of a live Eucharistic televised broadcast?

I've often wondered, while watching the various televised Eucharistic celebrations on EWTN (i.e. the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Eucharistic adoration, World Youth Day events, etc.), whether or not there is any connection between the reality of Christ's Real Presence that is being recorded/broadcast *live* and the viewer(s) who are perceiving the *live* broadcast. enter image description here Lets hypothetically say that I'm flipping through TV channels and I happen to land on EWTN precisely at the moment that Fr. Mitch Pacwa is elevating the consecrated Host during the liturgy of the Eucharist. As a Catholic, I'm obligated to believe that in that situation I would be looking at a real-time image of Jesus' body, blood, soul, and divinity present on the altar. Of course there should be some sort of reverence involved, but to what extent? I found it very interesting that during World Youth Day 2013 there were giant screens set up throughout the audience in order for everyone (3 million+) to be able to see the Eucharistic celebrations. It seems apparent to me that Catholics were able to actively participate in the WYD 2013 Eucharistic events even though they might have been a mile or two down the beach. enter image description here I'm wanting to know what the Catholic Church officially teaches about the metaphysical relationship between Christ's *actual* presence on the altar, and his "presence" on the receiving end of a live broadcast. Can someone who is home bound and is unable to attend Mass/adoration adore the Host as if they were truly present? To what extent are *all* Catholics obliged to revere the televised Host? It is important to understand that this question is *exclusively* about a *live* broadcast feed in *real time*, and *not* about any other type of Eucharistic image. This is specifically a Catholic question...so please no anti-Catholic "new age iconoclasm" please.
