According to the Internet Archive [*See here*](https://archive.org/details/AdviceToParents/mode/2up) , which offers a modern version of a booklet entitled "Advice to Parents" by St. Alphonsus Liguori: > This exceptional booklet was created from a sermon given by the great Saint Alphonsus Liguori, founder of the Redemptorist Order, Bishop, and Doctor of the Church. In it he expounds on the privilege and responsibilities of parenthood as a special vocation from God. He backs up his statements with quotes from Scripture.. Saint Alphonsus Liguori makes two specific points in his text. In the first, how important it is to bring up children in habits of virtue; and, second, the care and diligence a parent should extend to bring their children up well. QUESTION: Does anyone know the whereabouts of the aforementioned sermon on which this booklet is based? And/or, can anyone point me to an older version of the said booklet? Thank you.

Where to find Pius IX's 1871 Apostolic Letter, "Qui Ecclesiae Suae"?
The following quote is from Pope Bl. Pius IX's declaring St. Alphonsus Liguori as a Doctor of the Church: >“One can in fact assert that there has not been one error even in our times which Alphonsus, at least in great measure, did not fight against.” (Source: *Qui Ecclesiae Suae*, Apostolic Letter,...

Can anyone provide me with a link to the papal document *Qui Ecclesiae Suae*? I thought it would be an easy thing to find, but I was mistaken.

St. Robert Bellarmine on the Suspension of Public Masses
In his *Dignity and Duties of the Priest, or Selva*, St. Alphonsus Liguori writes: > Hence the devil has always sought to deprive the world of the Mass by means of the heretics, constituting them precursors of Antichrist, whose first efforts shall be to abolish the holy sacrifice of the altar, and,...
In his *Dignity and Duties of the Priest, or Selva*, St. Alphonsus Liguori writes: > Hence the devil has always sought to deprive the world of the Mass by means of the heretics, constituting them precursors of Antichrist, whose first efforts shall be to abolish the holy sacrifice of the altar, and, according to the prophet Daniel, in punishment of the sins of men, his efforts shall be successful: *And strength was given him against the continual sacrifice because of sins. (Dan. viii. 20.)* I recall having read somewhere a while back, that St. Robert Bellarmine interpreted the aforementioned verse in Daniel as meaning that (all) *public Masses* would be suspended for a time. Can anyone point me to where I may find this in St. Robert Bellarmine's writings, as well as to what else he may have had to say on Daniel 8:12?

Kinds of "Traffic" Catholic Priests are Forbidden to Engage in
According to Instruction VIII of St. Alphonsus Liguori's *Dignity and Duties of the Priest*: > In conformity with the words of the Apostle: *No man being a soldier to God entangleth himself with secular business, that he may please Him to Whom he hath engaged himself. According to Instruction VIII of St. Alphonsus Liguori's *Dignity and Duties of the Priest*: > In conformity with the words of the Apostle: *No man being a soldier to God entangleth himself with secular business, that he may please Him to Whom he hath engaged himself. (2 Tim. ii. 4.)* The holy Church prohibits, with so much rigor, and under pain of censure, ecclesiastics to engage in traffic. >The priest is consecrated to God; he therefore should attend to no other business than the advancement of God's glory. The Lord does not accept empty victims from which the marrow has been extracted. *I will offer up to Thee,* said David, *holocausts full of marrow. (Ps. lxv. 15.)* The sacrifices, the Masses, Offices, and works that a priest dissipated by the cares of traffic offers to God are, says St. Peter Damian, empty; for he has taken away the marrow, that is, attention and devotion, and presents only the skin or external appearance. I am assuming that the word "traffic" implies operating some kind of a business, but I don't know for sure. Does anyone know what exactly is meant by the word *traffic* here; and what kinds of traffic did the Catholic Church forbid priests from engaging in? Also, where may such declaration(s) be found? Was it declared in a papal encyclical or by a Council, or both?

The difference(s) between “The Way of the Cross” by St. Francis and by St. Alphonsus?
St. Francis wrote a “Way of the Cross” and several centuries later St. Alphonsus also wrote one. I have been reading both in parallel, and (in my personal opinion) they are both lovely. What would be the distinguishing features that would lead a church to observe one vs. the other during Lent?
