Hadith interpretation on lease of land

I've read a Hadith in sahih Bukhari. Below I am giving a rough translation of it:

Once a person asked our Prophet (PBUH), "We have some spare lands. Can we lease the land to others in exchange for one-third, one-fourth or half of the crops produced in it?" Our Prophet then replied, "One will cultivate his own land, or he will give it to his brother. If he's not agreed to these, he will leave the land uncultivated."

But in our country, a lot of people, holding jobs or being elderly or ignorant of tilling, lease their land to others for half or one-third amount of crops. Furthermore, they're dependent on the harvest. So is it haram for them to do so? Or does the Hadith imply something else?

I'm looking for as correct an explanation as possible. Thanks in advance.

May Allah bless you.
