How is St. Maria Goretti a martyr?
St. Maria Goretti was stabbed several times for her refusal to consent to sin against purity; Alessandro Serenelli, her "would-be rapist" (ch. 25 of [*Modern Saints: Their Lives and Faces* vol. 1][1]), was trying to seduce her. Certainly it is heroic that she would rather die than to consent to sin, but how is she a martyr? I thought martyrs had to die *in odium fidei* (because of hatred of the Faith).

Blessed Solanus Casey---Prophecy Regarding Disappearance of Large Portions of the United States Due to Flooding?
Some number of years ago, I recall having seen (I am sure it was on television and I believe it was in the 1990s) a documentary (I would like to say it was a show called "Unsolved Mysteries," but I am not sure)---on a prophecy regarding the future reshaping of the map of the United States due to som...
Some number of years ago, I recall having seen (I am sure it was on television and I believe it was in the 1990s) a documentary (I would like to say it was a show called "Unsolved Mysteries," but I am not sure)---on a prophecy regarding the future reshaping of the map of the United States due to some kind of massive flooding. I don't recall if this flooding was to supposed to occur gradually or quickly. I further recall that it was a prophecy of the recently beatified, Solanus Casey. However, over the past few days or so, I have tried to find a prophecy of this sort attributed to him---without success. Furthermore, I know that the alluded to show did do a segment on him in the 1990s, and maybe one thereafter---but from what I can find out, they may have pertained to miraculous healings. I am certain that such a prophecy was presented on television in the 1990s; and so, I imagine, that others are familiar with it---whether by that program, or by some other means. My question: Can someone recall more specifically, what the details of the alluded to prophecy are; and who is it attributed to? Bl. Solanus Casey? Someone else? Thank you.

Pius XII denied beatification of "a very well known founder of a religious order"?
Sr. [Pascalina Lehnert][0], Pope [Pius XII][1]'s housekeeper and secretary, wrote in [*His Humble Servant*][2] ch. 11: >One example was the beatification process of a very well known founder of a religious order. Sr. Pascalina Lehnert , Pope Pius XII 's housekeeper and secretary, wrote in *His Humble Servant* ch. 11: >One example was the beatification process of a very well known founder of a religious order. The proceedings were concluded and waiting for the Pope’s decision. On looking through the documents Pius XII now found some most distasteful words often used by the servant of God, which, however, were in general use in the region where they had been uttered and not regarded as objectionable, as he was assured from various quarters. Pius XII remained deaf to every request and representation. “I cannot,” he said simply. Although all the preparations had already been made, the beatification did not receive the “*Placet Eugenio*.” Who was this "servant of God " and "very well known founder of a religious order"?

She was never officially canonized by the Church. > 33. (11 augusti) e quolibet calendario expungatur. - Acta Apostolicae Sedis (Page 174) This subject may be the cause of some strong opinions one way or other as the following questions shows: - Can Patron Saints be “dethroned”? - Who is the oldest Blessed? In order to limit this question to a more historical nature, I prefer that personal opinions be limited to the interpretation of historical data. I also do not desire to have what any visionaries or Catholic mystics have said about the life of [St.] Philomena. Visions are not considered historical proofs. This is exactly how Rome approached the investigation into the beatification of Blessed Catherine Emmerich . > At the time of the Emmerich's beatification in 2004, the Vatican position on the authenticity of the Brentano books was elucidated by priest Peter Gumpel, who was involved in the study of the issues for the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints: "It is absolutely not certain that she ever wrote this. There is a serious problem of authenticity". According to Gumpel, the writings attributed to Emmerich were "absolutely discarded" by the Vatican as part of her beatification process. Thus my question could be phrased as such: **What are the historical reasons that lead up to the Vatican’s decision to suppress the cult of [St.] Philomena and is her cult still permitted in our days?**

Just a question that ought to have a concrete answer and be a good example for how the process of canonization works for my Religious Ed. class: 1. Who has been declared blessed for the longest period of time without being canonized? 2. Who is the oldest person to have been declared blessed (died shortest after Christ)? Bonus points if anyone knows who has been 'venerable' or 'servant of God' for the longest or is the oldest _(Bonus points may be stored up and redeemed in Heaven, where neither moth nor worm may spoil them)_

It seems like every miracle that is used in the case for beatification in the Catholic Church has to do with some sickness being prayed for and its miraculous cure. But it seems to me that there are a lot of other things that could have miraculous explanations. There have been miracles where a sack of money shows up unexpectedly or an inexplicable staircase is inexplicably built. But these don't seem to be the kinds of miracles that can get someone canonized and making the sun dance is a miracle, but almost too big a thing for one person to be recognized as the intercessor. Are there any other sorts of miracles that can get someone canonized, or do they have to be medical in nature nowadays?
