If you live near a mosque, must you pray your 5 salah everyday in the mosque (except for jumuah)?

I live near a mosque, is it optional or mandatory to pray my daily 5 salat there? The Prophet said: "Whoever hears the call and does not come, his prayer is not valid, except for those who have an excuse." Sunan Ibn Majah 793 Does this hadith mean that If, I pray Fajr at home because I'm to sleepy to walk all the way to the masjid the prayer is invalid. Is this just a highly recommended sunnah or is it a sin to not pray in congregation. Except of course for Jumu'ah, I pray there every afternoon.
