Do the Qur'anic passages on the creation of the heavens and earth contradict each other regarding their order?

Three Qur'anic passages address the creation of the heavens and the earth: Al-Baqarah 2:29, Fussilat 41:9–12, and An-Nāziʿāt 79:27–33. On the surface they appear to conflict with one another regarding sequence: Fussilat 41:9–12 describes the earth being created first, then its habitability, and then God turning toward the heaven. Al-Baqarah 2:29 similarly says God created what is in the earth and then turned to proportion the heavens as seven. But An-Nāziʿāt 79:27–33 seems to say the heaven was built before the earth was spread out. Critics and skeptics have pointed to this as an internal contradiction in the Qur'an regarding the order of creation. Is there a genuine contradiction here, or is there a coherent way to reconcile these three passages — one grounded in the Arabic grammar of the Qur'an itself and supported by classical tafsīr?
