Was concubinage used as a loophole or a valid form of prostitution where they are bought for sex and then returned afterwards (on the basis of defect) or sold soon after over and over again? I was reading up on concubinage and it mentioned this. Wouldn't this sort of behaviour corrupt society and cause spread of stds? And be harmful to the slave girls.I know there was a waiting period but still. If this was a common practice in a society would it have been condemned by islamic authorities as a loophole for prostitution? The original source seemed to allude to the fact there was nothing wrong with this Islamically and the change happened because of british pressures.
“The Islamic Law formally prohibited prostitution. However, "Slave girls most probably were a part of the sex trade in the Ottoman Empire. Dellals used to sell women and girls to the bazaars, dellals presented men the girls, but after 1–2 days or a short time, after spending a day with women or children, the man returned them due to dissatisfaction. In Sharia law, this type of transaction was not an illegal action. Thus, the authorities had to use specific codes prohibiting the slavery, in the theoretical framework."
