Praise and glory be to Him, (far above is He) from having the > partners they associate (with Him)." **—Qur'an 9:31** In (I think) Tirmidhi > Tafseer, there is a hadith about this ayah, where Prophet Muhammad says (paraphrasing), “It is not that the Jews worshiped their Rabbis, but they accepted whatever they said as to what is halal and haram.” But that hadith was short and without names, and I remember someone mentioning the full story as to who actually came to Prophet Muhammad. And, as I remember, the person first said, “We did not worship our Rabbis,” upon which Prophet Muhammad said what he said. Where can I find that longer version?
