What are the biblical justifications for racial segregation?

What are some of the biblical arguments used to promote racial segregation ? I am not asking about slavery or racial superiority, *per se* (see related question ), but about the idea that it is good for society to separate itself along racial characteristics and to avoid miscegenation .
