Where do dead in Christ rise from if they're with Jesus?

In Revelation and 1 Thessalonians we read that the dead in Christ rise first. This makes sense if you do not believe that the dead are already in heaven, but very many Christians believe that the righteous dead are with Christ already at this point, usually upon their death. So if the dead are already with Jesus where are the dead in Christ rising from?
