According to Catholicism which parts of the Bible actually happened historically?

One of the things that have tested my faith is the question: Did the bible really happen? Was there really a "garden of Eden"? Was there a universal flood"
And perhaps more importantly, how important is it for the bible books to be accurate? If Genesis didn't really happen, what impact does it have on our faith?
Modern scientific research clearly shows that the creation story from the bible did not really happen.

What parts should we ready historically and what parts figuratively?
