In the Latin tradition, we have what is called Prayer before Meal: >Benedic, Domine, nos et haec tua dona quae de tua largitate sumus sumpturi, per Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen. > >Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts which we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ, Our Lord. Amen. I say this prayer as a person who is not a priest or a deacon. My understanding is that I can also bless objects, people, or food but that it will not be the same thing as if they did it. What does the Church say about the difference between me saying Prayer before Meal and a priest or deacon doing it?
