The church officially commenced in Newfoundland, Pennsylvania in January 2015, and it became infamous for its fetishization of firearms as their interpretation of the "rod of iron" mentioned in the Bible. In early 2018, not long after a deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida, the church gained notoriety for holding a marriage vows renewal ceremony that asked participants to bring their AR-15 rifles. Moon and other members of the church participated in the 2021 United States coup d'etat attempt in Washington DC, and, that same year, the church relocated to a compound near Waco, Texas, the site of the Branch Davidians' former compound.
